The Iranian Foreign Minister’s surprise visit to the G7 has raised the
possibility of US-Iran talks. Trump has raised the possibility of such
talks before, but now there seems to be at least some treating of it as a serious matter.
But somebody’s not happy, and as with anything that involves Iranian
diplomacy, it’s Israel. The Israeli intelligence community is expressing serious concerns about the possibility of Trump getting into direct Iran talks.
The concern there is that Trump might even make a deal with Iran, and
that adds to Israeli concerns about such talks which were already
substantial since Trump has repeatedly said he is not seeking regime
change in Iran.
Israeli officials see this as the worst-case scenario, because Netanyahu
has long made a big deal about Trump being the most pro-Israel
president ever, and if Trump makes a deal they don’t like, they really
don’t have a lot of options to push back on it.
Trump is the best possibility for peace in my lifetime. I think our late friend Justin would agree with me.
Sure, when he’s not threatening to obliterate countries. And never mind the sanctions or blockades. Our late friend Justin was as wrong as you are.
Trump doesn’t have the balls to say no to nut-jobs like Pompeo and Pence who crave war with Iran. It is wishful thinking to say that he is some kind of peacenik. More accurately, he’s a Likudnik who is totally beholden to Sheldon Adelson and the Zionists to put him back in office in 2020.
And upon entering office he learned just how much he loves Likudniks. Public show of Russiagate is useful in embarking on brainwashing campaign identifying an implacable enemy, an alien race to defeat by all means and not bound by any norms of humanity. This will remain the key, unchanging theme of US policy, unless neocons are thoroughly discredited. Which is no likely to happen. For the same reason none of their disasters have resulted in any change to US policy. And Trump learned probably soon after he got into office that he will not be allowed to appoint his team.
We are probably way off in assessing the reasons for the policies and directions large margins of our society does not approve off. Partially is the money. Partially is the power of the top circle financial and corporate power which trough “contacts” actually runs the nuts and bolts of our administration, including all intelligence agencies. But even with all that one can imagine that still human integrity will come through. And here we come to an element of control that scandals like Epstein reveal. Just how many people in power and influence have been involved in a behavior that renders them open to extortion for life. And as the Epstein saga has been reduced to claims against his estate — unless something remarkable happens, the individuals will remain blackmailed by who knows whom, but most likely corporate elements of intelligence. And unless a victim protection program is offered to victims, and individuals identified — the damage will continue. It is frightening to realize that people in power do not understand the implications of their perverted behavior. And I will not be shocked to discover many more such traps for feebleminded people.
Thomas Carlton,
Trump is an idiot – plain, pure and simple. And like all idiots, his streaks of good luck are outnumbered by his streaks of bad luck. The US economy will soon turn bad (really bad) and he, Israel, and the whole elite Establishment (of both political parties) may as well go to Hell for all that the majority of Americans will feel. In 2020, this country will vote socialist and; furthermore, the American people will look back at the last 40 years of neoliberal rule as a time when evil ruled this country.
That’s an interesting narrative out of Israel… Trump is the most wonderful pro-Israel president ever, but like Sirens calling sailors towards the rocks Trump will lose all resolve the moment an Iranian official opens his mouth. MAGA has always been incompatible with the US implementing Israel’s aggressive foreign policy goals.
You’re quite right, nhmakingwaves. It surely is an interesting narrative out of Israel .. DJT’s the most wonderful pro-Israel POTUS ever, but like Sirens calling sailors toward the rocks, DJT will lose all resolve the minute an Iranian official (Rouhani) opens his mouth. As you rightly said, MAGA has always been incompatible with the US implementing Israel’s aggressive foreign policy goals.
Truth is, DJT hasn’t started any wars since taking office .. G. W. Bush and Barack Obama have started at least 2 wars after assuming office. If DJT was to start a war, he’d lose his re-election bid in 2020 .. He already knows that, so he’s doing everything not to start any, even though Pompous Pompeo and Bonkers Bolton are trying everything possible to start at least one war – possibly 3 wars.
I guess that’s reason for some hope, but Trump also has stood in the way of ending any of the ongoing wars / interventions / whatever. Like the cracks in the coalition seeking to dominate Yemen, let’s hope for more cracks in the coalition between Trump and Bibi N. They’re both totally volatile jerks, time for them to get personal on each other!
There isn’t going to be any Iran “deal” or Palestinian “deal”. Trump will insist on ballistic missile suspension, Iran will say no, and that is all. Palestinians have already said no to Jared’s ultimatum masquerading as a “deal”. Please stop. We’re tired of “deals”. Just go away.
Plus they’d have to open up every inch of their soil for on demand(by us)inspections. And no allies.
A load of drivel in the referenced article.
They cite Trump’s negotiating with North Korea. North Korea is not Iran. The reason Trump backed down and negotiated with North Korea is because the Pentagon told him that a war with North Korea could result in fifty thousand US casualties in the first ninety days – and that’s without North Korea using any nukes (which they wouldn’t do because the US would nuke them out of existence in retaliation.) Trump couldn’t possibly risk that if he wants a second term.
Iran isn’t nearly as dangerous. The US could bomb Iran for decades without fear of major US casualties as long as the US kept its Navy out of reach of Iranian antiship missiles and didn’t try to invade Iran – although US assets in the region would be under constant attack by Iranian ballistic missiles. But US casualties would be much less than any war with North Korea.
Israel knows this. They also know that Trump is surrounded by pro-Zionists and neocons. They know he isn’t going to make a “great” deal with Iran which Iran would profit from. It is true that Trump is clueless but that means he will be relying on his advisers as to what to even say in any Iranian negotiation – which means there’s no chance he will make some deal that he finds “preferable.”
Whoever in the Israeli “intelligence community” who is talking like that to the Israeli reporter is an idiot. However, clearly the point of the piece is to propagandize against the idea of any negotiation with Iran.
A nice dream if it could ever become true….
Even Trump gets tired of Israel’s constant yapping at his heels and tells Netanyahu to go to hell.
