Israel Attacks Village in Syria’s Quineitra

Israeli forces launched another attack across the border into neighboring Syria on Thursday, hitting a small village near the occupied Golan Heights. Syrian state media reported damage, but no casualties.

Exactly why this attack was launched is unclear, though some Arab media were speculating that it was an attack against Hezbollah. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appeared to confirm this, saying Israel is “always acting” against Hezbollah.

Often this means blowing up warehouses Israel thinks might be holding equipment meant for Hezbollah, or buildings that might be occupied by someone vaguely Iranian, or at least Shi’ite.

The Israeli military has not commented on the attack, which is not unusual. Netanyahu’s indirect reference to the attack is even unusual, despite how often Israel attacks Syria and how little doubt there is about who did it.
