The latest US-imposed sanctions against Iran are very specifically targeted, hitting Foreign Minister Javad Zarif, blocking all property and financial interests he has within the United States. Unsurprisingly, he doesn’t have any.
This is a recurring theme with US sanctions against high-ranking Iranian
officials, as decades of isolation means those people don’t have US
assets to go after in the first place, and the statements are seemingly
just for show.
The timing is immediately after the US rejected a proposal from Zarif
wherein Iran would accept the Additional Protocol to the NPT in return
for the US giving Iran sanctions relief. Though this was a response to
the US claiming to seek talks, the sanctions seem like a rebuke of the
very idea of making such a deal.
The Trump Administration says it will handle its global travel ban on
Zarif on a case by case basis. This means the US might allow him to
visit the UN in September for the General Assembly, or it might not.
Disgusting behaviour by the narcissistic tangerine in the White House. How on earth can you sanction the foreign minister of another country, what has he done wrong?
These actions just make the US look stupid in the eyes of the world.
The UN should not have its HQ in the US.
He did something very offensive indeed: he demonstrated to the world that the US talk of talks with Iran was just so we could say we had some openness to talking. Someone must pay for this blow to US diplomacy (which means efforts to get various nations to attack Iran economically and then militarily – we aren’t diplomatic in any real sense of the word).
Asinine
“Whom the gods would destroy they first make mad”. No other way to interpret this …..
I better watch what I say on this site. I might get sanctioned and they won’t let me sell my medicinal marijuana anymore.
Got you covered…..
All right Dave!
Pathetic and childish……..and a sign of human weakness.
Zarif said that the sanctions would have no effect on him or his family, as he has no property or assets outside of Iran.
This is an absurdity even by the lowest of low American standards. A foreign minister is just that, a nation’s top diplomat, and the communication channel. Proof that US does not have any intentions to resolve the issue. Speaking of the issue — what is it really? It is not nuclear program and it is nothing else that can be defined in a logic humans can understand.
What a colossal waste of our money. For a person who used to acknowledge Iranian contribution in fighting ISIS — to the man who is inventing stories of Iranian terrorism?
We are the laughing stock. We cannot stop Eurasian integration, and if we plug the Iranian route — something else opens. At the moment Myanmar and China are moving forward with the fast speed rail, string of hydroelectric plants, roads, tourism. Even Saudis are considering using Iraq-Syria route diversification of pipelines to avoid dependence on Gulf or Bad Al-Mandeb. And so on. We are wasting money to establish supremacy over global trade routes, and sea lanes. But it is impossible — but we are not giving up. Eurasian continent will be integrated by land, and trying to block Iran and bring paralysis to the Gulf — is a waste of money and loss of global prestige and trust.
He should never trust America. They lie when needed and it’s not beneath them to lay false charges and arrest him to pressure Iran. They arrested Dominique Strauss-Khan soon enough when they didn’t want him leading the IMF.
Just more ramp up to the war. Otherwise irrelevant.
Orange turd has to go……and his party too..
