National Security Adviser John Bolton continued to push accusations that Cuba is behind the failed US-backed coup in Venezuela, now claiming that 25,000 Cuban troops are in the country, and Venezuela would fall by midnight if they left.
Cuba has denied having troops in Venezuela, or engaging in any military
operations there. Bolton provided no evidence that the 25,000 troops are
there, and there are some serious reasons to doubt it.
During the Tuesday coup, after all, chief of staff Mick Mulvaney insisted that Russia and Cuba were “not supposed to get involved,” a preposterous supposition to make if Cuba had a substantial chunk of its military in Venezuela.
And that would be a huge military commitment for Cuba. The most recent
official estimate is that Cuba’s entire military only has 90,000 active
personnel, which would mean that if Bolton’s allegations were true, they
are committing around 30% of their entire military to an overseas
engagement.
Cuba likely sent advisors to assist against US coup, and 5th column attacks. They know the drill.
so I say kudos to Cuba and to Russia, etc. stopping the hegemon in its tracks.
That is the problem with having idiots running America – they do stupid things. When you have as-holes like Bolton, Pompeo, and Abrams in charge – they (by the nature of their very basic low intelligences) assume that they can take over a country like Venezuela without other countries like Cuba and Russia, who do have a stake in Venezuela, stepping in to prevent our take-over.
Should be a requirement that anyone being appointed to our State Department or adviser status must be able to pass undergraduate exams on history, geography and logic.
If you really think these guys have low intelligence, then you are the one with low intelligence. They may be evil scheming scumballs, but that doesn’t make them dumb.
And here’s a history lesson for YOU: The US has always intervened in Latin American countries that didn’t tow the US line. That doesn’t make it right, but it’s a fact. This isn’t an unusual situation.
lordbaldric, The thing that drives my assessment of low intelligence for our “team of idiots” running our foreign affairs is the undeniable fact that our old – “we make the rules” approach is no longer working. Our invasion of Afghanistan is FUBAR; our actions in Syria amounted to crap; our attempts to rule by the World by economic sanctions is about to fail; and sadly we can no longer even pull off a coup in a banana/oil republic like Venezuela. We used to pull off Latin American interventions in Honduras, Chile, etc., but now countries like Venezuela can laugh at our impotent efforts. The same dumb shits that used to run our Empire now need to be in the unemployment line or cooking French Fries and be replaced by people with brains.
That is the problem with having power-obsessed homicidal maniacs running America …
There, FTFY.
and have at least a 100 IQ…. None of those guys even approach 70 …. I know they score higher on a Weschler but I’m permitted to exaggerate a bit here for effect.
Bolton forgot to mention the WMDs and “mushroom clouds” threats.
lol
But we still have the clown pmpeo’s claim that hizbullah is in Venezuela.
If Bolton said it, it’s a lie….period.
Absolutely, Vic; Bonkers Bolton’s not only a lunatic, he’s a pathological liar, to boot. There are NO 25,000 Cuban troops in Venezuela .. a few hundred, maybe. but certainly not 25,000.
Never believe a word Bonkers Bolton, Pompous Pompeo, and/or Creepy Demon Abrams say, since all 3 are pathological liars.
Ditto for the CIA (& Pentagon & most of the rest of the govt, media, & corporate “information” streams.)
I always smile when some MSM FakeNews talking head says, “How can you say X, when the Intelligence Agencies say not-X?”
Whereupon I think to myself: “Really!!?? We ***ARE*** talking here about the premier professional lying organizations on the planet, right? How is it that ***YOU***, when they say anything — “whenever they move their lips” — don’t automatically assume as your default position, that they are lying to you?” “Perception Management”, “Plausible deniability”, etc — comprehensively etc.
A claim like this is easy to verify now. In 1962 satellite pictures were rare and classified. Now satellites are everywhere, and lots of people have access to them. Plus webcams at port facilities, air traffic radar, Facebook posts from the soldiers themselves, etc. The evidence would be visible in many ways.
Bolton is such a sack of crap. I like what Mike Rivero says in such cases……. ‘Here’s parachute John…. Here’s your rifle… (and then, to kick him out of the plane over Venezuela….. )
So do I, medicis. “OK, Bonkers, here’s a parachute .. Here’s a rifle .. and then, to kick him out of the plane over Venezuela:D
I’d certainly love to see old Bonkers shaking in his boots and soiling his pants as a contingent of heavily-armed Venezuelan troops appear before him, bayonets pointed right at his chest.:D
I think they should point their bayonets in the same place on Bolton that the “rebels” in Libya pointed their bayonets on Gaddafi. And it wasn’t the chest.
I remember when they were on the Mexican border. Back when my mom was in the John Birch Society
Unfortunately the Cuban soldiers being invited is true. Not sure about the 25,000 number. But these days to defeat the shadows, you need to form the league of alliance with the help from the Vorlons.
Of course the USA could not believe such a thing, but Cuba actually provides medical help-doctors nurses etc to so many countries where the USA (as in Haiti) sends troops. Cuba has provided medical personnel in dozens of needy nations. The USA only thinks of drones, invasions, sanctions, lies.
“…if Bolton’s allegations were true,…”
If pigs could fly…
From Wikipedia, citing Foreign Affairs, July/August 2010. page 69
Cuba’s largest and most extensive medical aid effort is with Venezuela. The program grew out of the emergency assistance provided by Cuban doctors in the wake of the December 1999 mudslides in Vargas state, which killed 20,000 people. Under this bilateral effort, also known as the “oil for doctors” program, Cuba provides Venezuela with 31,000 Cuban doctors and dentists and provides training for 40,000 Venezuelan medical personnel. In exchange, Venezuela provides Cuba with 100,000 barrels of oil per day. Based on February 2010 prices, the oil is worth $7.5 million per day, or nearly $3 billion per year.
Exactly!!!!!
Bolton’s wrong. I hear there are 25,000,000 Cuban troops ready to defend Maduro in downtown Caracas.
