Meeting with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un, Russian President Vladimir Putin
says he is “satisfied with the results,” and that he intends to discuss the progress with President Trump to convey his impression of the denuclearization process.
Putin says he believes that the deal would be greatly facilitated by the
US offering North Korea some security guarantees in return. So far,
indications are that the US is loathe to offer anything in return.
Putin’s suggestion makes sense, however, as North Korea has long made
clear its nuclear program was purely meant to deter a US attack. Any
guarantee that takes US attacks off the table would surely help.
Kim Jong Un suggested that making peace would require the US to be more
flexible than they were during the Hanoi summit. State media said Kim
presented the US as acting in bad faith during the talks.
Good! Let Trump and Putin work together for peace.
Right, John, just let Putin and Trump work together for peace, and keep both Pompous Pompeo and Bonkers Bolton out of the loop .. They’ve done more than their share of damage over the Syrian conflict enough.
Vlad, Trump will send Bolton and Pompeo to discuss the details with you. Good luck with that.
Maybe Putin can swing by the State Dept to provide a few tutorial sessions on how diplomacy works… or US officials could just resort to asking the nearest 1st grader to explain fairness.
Great comment!!
“North Korea has long made clear its nuclear program was purely meant to deter a US attack.” Of course, this is deterrence, which was able to work when all the nuclear powers understood MAD and did not intend first use of nukes for obvious reasons. With the USA under Dubya, Obama and now Trump, this is gone, but normal humans know that nukes cannot just be used and then everything will be all right. DPRK has 65 years of reasons to fear the USA.
Ask Daniel Ellsberg (his book “The Doomsday Machine” and interviews on the Real news Network are convincing)
The US has proved several times that with the US there are no guarantees.
