With every Lebanese election comes a US warning that voters had better not support Hezbollah. Despite this, the political party and its allies continue to fare well in elections, and in the last vote, Hezbollah’s bloc won over 70 of 128 seats.
Which made the US all the angrier, and now officials are complaining that Hezbollah has secured three government ministries in the process. US Ambassador Elizabeth Richard expressed opposition for this “growing role” in government.
The voter mandate is fairly clear, however, and with Hezbollah the leading party in the leading bloc, it’s actually surprising they didn’t demand more than 3 of the 30 ministries. The biggest ministry they got was Health, which is large, but not foreign policy-centric, so it is unclear why the US is objecting beyond not getting their way in the election.
It suggests the US refuses to recognize Hezbollah for what it is, a substantial political player within Lebanon. Instead, officials continue to present them as exclusively a terrorist organization and ignor the large political bloc and large humanitarian outreach which have also defined the group within the region. So long as this continues, the US will continue to appear tone deaf in its Lebanon policy, and appear to be trying to dictate the outcome of free elections which historically have not gone their way.
HA, Ha…ha… So we are to believe exactly WHAT….????? That Hesbollah is WHAT..???
Hesbollah is and has been a game changer. Just ask the Israelis… When they were occupying Sothern Lebanon they used their advanced American weaponry to cow and intimidate the very nice Lebanese and occupy Southern Lebanon. God help those Southern Lebanese who Israel forced off their land… Land where their forebarers had farmed and lived for a mere fifteen hindred or two thousand years.. The Lebanese had no modern military to force to repel the Israeli occupiers from their lands and out of their villages till Hesbollah turned their attention to the unwanted occupiers. Soon there after, transiting the roads the Israelis used to administer their subjugation & occupation of the South became a bit more complicated. Inocious items like cacti along the road, took on a marshal aspect. They began exploding as the unwanted Israeli occupiers passed by.
At first it was just amusing for the overwhelmingly superior occupation forceces, but as time went on, the Hesbollah resistance became a deadly reality. So much so that the Israelis beat a retreat back to the Palestinian side of the old line which the occupier found safer & better than the Zionist lines of demarkation.
Lebanon is now about 60% Shiite in population. The whole population tends to vote for its confessional group. Of course Hezbollah gets about 60% of the vote and seats. Actually, it gets a bit less.
What?? The US trying to influence elections in a foreign country? Everybody knows only Russia does that sort of thing!
The US is using this to build up a justification for attacking Hizballah in concert with Israel. Israel needs Hizballah’s missile arsenal degraded before Israel can start a war with Iran. But Israel can’t do it by itself. It needs the US to join in an attack.
So Israel is pushing the US behind the scenes to ramp up opposition to Hizballah as being part of the “Iranian forces” in Syria, thus using Trump’s opposition to Iran to target Hizballah as well. Once they get the US to attack Lebanon under some immediate pretext, then Israel and the US may also extend that war into Syria, thus accomplishing what Israel and the US wanted in the first place.
This is the Israeli route to start the Iran war – attack Lebanon, then
extend that into Syria, then Iran. The original plan was attack Syria,
then cross Syrian territory to attack Lebanon, then Iran.
I suspect Russia will oppose this plan, but Russia has little maneuvering room with regard to Lebanon as it is not a Russian ally as is Syria nor does Russia have any facilities in Lebanon to justify “protecting” Lebanon as it does Syria.
Of course, Russia will oppose this idiotic plan; Russia’s one of Hezbollah’s allies, even though Russia isn’t allied with Lebanon. Still, US meddling in Lebanon’s domestic affairs exposes its hypocricy.
However, Iran has two very powerful allies – China and Russia. Is the US that dumb and suicidal as to cave in to Israel and attack Iran? If Israel’s that dumb, desperate and suicidal to do it, by all means, get out of its way and let it destroy itself. The Zionist Entity has NO allies, so the US has NO obligation to join in with its suicide.
Why not, when it opposes the whole of the Venezuelan government, president and all?
