Speaking to reporters at a NATO meeting in Brussels, US acting Defense
Secretary Patrick Shanahan promised that the United States will not have
any “unilateral troop reduction” or withdrawal from Afghanistan.
These comments come amid ongoing US negotiations with the Taliban on
ending the Afghan War, negotiations which the Taliban have made clear
depend entirely on US troops withdrawing from Afghanistan.
Shanahan insisted that any withdrawal would be “coordinated” with NATO,
which might just suggest that since the Taliban wants all foreign troops
out, the deal would also include NATO forces.
Shanahan’s vagueness on that point might be deliberate, as a way to
deflect criticism from hawks who oppose the very idea of leaving
Afghanistan under any circumstances.
Some kind of weird virtue signaling…… warmonger style.
Those NATO countries with very their token presence in Afghanistan will be happy to leave ASAP.
Perhaps they all want “just one more harvest season”.

Interview with former Soviet general Boris Gromov:
At that time, both the United States and NATO did everything to drag the USSR into Afghanistan. I also became convinced of this during meetings with the commander-in-chief of NATO’s southern forces. They never made a secret of it.
Like all things Trump, I hope for the best but I’ll believe it when I see it.
One of my favorite quotes by the late, great Antonio Gramsci- “I’m a pessimist because of intelligence, but an optimist because of will.”
Everybody out!!!!
