On the eve of major planned opposition marches in Venezuela, US Vice President Mike Pence took the opportunity to issue a video message expressing support
for the protests, condemning Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro as a
“dictator” with no claim to power, and backed opposition leader Juan
Guiado as the “last vestige of democracy” in the country.
Unsurprisingly, this didn’t go over well with Maduro, who ordered a “total revision” of diplomatic ties with the United States and accused the Trump Administration of trying to orchestrate a coup against him.
Which is probably not an inaccurate assessment. President Trump has been encouraging the Venezuelan military to oust Maduro for months, and the State Department has in recent weeks called for Guiado to immediately remove him from power.
Pence’s comments are clearly meant to give Guiado another American
endorsement. How much impact they’ll actually have within Venezuela is
unclear, of course, since Pence gave his speech entirely in English,
interspersing a couple of Spanish words like “hola” into it.
If anything, the continued US meddling in Venezuela is likely to give
Maduro all the more excuses to crack down on the opposition, by spinning
it as a mechanism for American intervention. Venezuelan governments,
particularly under Maduro, have long relied on accusing the US of plots
against the government. The Trump Administration seems only too willing
to give them ammunition to continue those claims.
And to think these pricks have the audacity to complain about alleged russian interference in US affairs.
Having destroyed much of the Middle East, Washington is ready t spread death and destruction to our own hemisphere. Not content with destroying Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Somalia, Libya, Afghanistanand eastern Ukraine, Washington has set its sights on Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Cuba.
We’ve been doing it for years
Before we knew there was a Middle East
Pence is a lunatic and an uber-hawk. With the neocons and the Democrats united on keeping America in a perpetual state of war , and both having a concept of American exceptionalism, I wonder if this is another reason that the left has such a visceral hatred of Trump and want him impeached.
Of course, and don’t believe for a moment that it wasn’t the U.S. that was really behind the Nazi Holocaust, the whole WW2 thing was all about making money for a few Americans and the pure joy that comes from unlimited bloodshed, and if you don’t believe that; then why did this country supply the Nazis with all the oil they needed to run their war machine? This country is being run by people far worse than the Nazis ever were. Someone once said, ‘you will know me by my works’, so too can we know ourselves.
Probably the main reason; the war machine floats a lot of faux-progressive boats.
I think Pence should have traveled to Venezuela to make his speech in person. Some open aired venue would have been ideal.
We should mind our own business. Pence is an egotistical clown. More regime change madness. And if Rubio is for anything I am against that thing.
1. Sanctions.
2. Invasion.
3. Occupation
4. Torture.
That is the sequence of events of Americana aggression and intervention. In Venezuela we are presently between step 1 and 2.
A few hours ago President Nicolas Maduro just ordered all US diplomats out of Venezuela in 72 hours.
According to the legislature, there is no “president Maduro.” They declared the presidency vacant and filled it with their guy.
The whole justification for the Cold War and many hot wars of the last century by the US was to stop the spread of Communism. Now we have become the very plague we were supposedly fighting against, a military power spread all over and dominating the face of the earth.
Not quite; the U.S. isn’t communist yet.
Too bad Maduro can’t run a country any better than Pence could.
Or maybe not; if Maduro were actually competent he’d be dead by now.
Another US instigated coup d’etat…..the list is endless.
This time the US with its Neocon adm. is fully open about it.
At the same time the US freaks out about fake russian interference in US elections.
