Reports out of southern Syria, as well as the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, are reporting a series of Israeli airstrikes against Shi’ite militias inside Syria, nominally “pro-Iranian” targets. Explosions were reported in and around the Damascus airport.
The attacks were reported after Israel reported a single incident of Syrian fire landing in the Israeli-occupied Golan. Syria initially reported that they had shot down a hostile force, though Israel says nothing was hit by the Syrian fire.
Hitting nothing was still enough for Israel to spend a solid hour striking targets around south Syria and metro Damascus. Syrian state media reported they’d fired on several enemy projectiles, and that Israeli airstrikes had “failed to achieve any of its objectives.”
The Israeli Army says they recovered the wreckage of what is believed to be a Syrian surface-to-air missile in Golan, and are searching the area further. There is no indication that finding anything, or those missiles doing anything, would have any impact on continued Israeli strikes.
