President Trump has accused China of trying to meddle in the November mid-term elections, while other US officials are claiming China is try to influence US public opinion to “an unacceptable level.”
This is the latest in a series of allegations, surrounding an ongoing US-China trade war, and President Trump blaming China for struggles in North Korea diplomacy. All this is leading to mounting tensions.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has expressed growing concerns about this, saying the US and China must not allow themselves to be locked into a Cold War mentality, saying this is not in the interest of either nation.
With these tensions continuing to worsen, US officials also confirmed that B-52 bombers were flown over Chinese islands in the South China Sea, which the Pentagon calls “routine” operations. Such deployments tends to be done to specifically spite China, since the US does not view China’s claim to the islands as legitimate.
“Malign influence”?! That’s the language we had reserved for Russia thus far. Diplomacy that says nothing except “you’re bad” effectively is only asking for more aggressive action from the criticized party. If it weren’t just slander, the accusation would be specific.
When will the USA ever mind its own business? Chinese islands in the South China Sea require US supervision???
