Speaking to reporters on Monday, National Security Adviser John Bolton slammed Russia for the announced sale of S-300 air defense systems to the Syrian government, demanding that they “reconsider” and warning that the US would view this as a “significant escalation” of the Syrian war.
Russia announced the move after a recent attack on the Syrian coast by Israel, during which a Russian Il-20 was shot down. Russia says the more advanced S-300s will be safer. Israel had insisted Syria deliberately attacked the Russian plane, while Russia says the Israeli jets were under fire from Syria and “hid” behind the larger Russian plane, getting it caught in the fire.
Bolton dismissed both of those explanations, however, saying that “really the party responsible for the shooting down of the Russian plane is Iran,” even though Iran had no involvement in the incident whatsoever.
Blaming Iran is a popular strategy for the Trump Administration, even if it didn’t make any sense. This allows the US to portray any actions done in Syria as being done on behalf of Iran.
Of course it’s ‘significant escalation’- it means it will be that much harder for Israel to attack Syria. And, of course, no nation is allowed to defend itself except Israel, so obviously the missiles must go.
The beast is vicious! When attacked it tries to defend itself
This might impinge on Israel’s right to defend itself risk free. It must not be allowed.
When did Bolton escape from the asylum?
When Trump hired him.
Whatever Adelson excretes, Bolton regurgitates for the world. This much we know. What we don’t know is how they think they can invade Iran after having been defeated in Syria.
S-300 is a defensive unit. Bolton is a liar. Nothing to see here.
The USA and Israel call all their aggression “defense”.They don’t know what defense is. Bolton needs to belt up-the USA has no right at all to be in Syria. Go Home Yanks. Your country needs real work.
The more interesting contorted meaning behind “significant escalation” is: of what? The Syrian civil war which is almost entire won and just getting mopped up? Or the regional sectarian conflict of which the civil war was just an opening gambit? Sounds like Bolton views this as a war for Sunnis against self-determination. Or, purely a proxy conflict between the US and Russia. It’s a disturbing and crazy narrative either way, dismissing all inconvenient reality and nuance.
It’s about time! In the last 2 years, Russia sold the more advanced S400 to Turkey and the Saudis, 2 countries that the Russians know (or should know assuming anyone in the government or military has any sense, which I am now starting to doubt) support Sunni terrorism, who Russia is supposedly fighting in Syria. Are they that desperate for money, or is there a hidden agenda?
Think ,Michael , think!
