A series of Taliban offensives in Farah, Badghis, and Baghlan Provinces have killed at least 27 members of the Afghan security forces. Most of the slain are police, though some soldiers were also killed.
The largest attacks were in Farah Province, where overnight raids on Sunday night into early Monday overran a series of checkpoints, killing at least 17 police, and capturing an unspecified number of others.
In Baghlan, the attack hit a joint army and police base, killing three soldiers and two police, and founding four other people. Officials i each province claimed massive Taliban casualties, but the Taliban hasn’t commented on those.
The Taliban has been carrying out a growing number of attacks across Afghanistan, and while there are reports of reinforcements being dispatched to Baghlan, recently the Afghan military has been unable to reinforce all the different regions being challenged, and leaving some to be overrun outright.
