Speaking on Fox News Sunday, Rep. Mac Thornberry, the chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, warned it would be a mistake for President Trump to withdraw from the nuclear deal. Thornberry said he’d opposed the deal initially in 2015.
At this point, however, the chairman noted that losing the deal would greatly erode US leverage against Iran. He noted it would likely mean the end of inspector access to Iran facilities and cost the US visibility on Iran’s civilian nuclear program.
President Trump set a May 12 ultimatum for the deal to be changed, threatening to withdraw if that didn’t happen. With less than a week to go, European efforts to placate him don’t appear to have accomplished much.
Still, Trump is facing a lot of opposition to the idea of withdrawing from the pact. This is not just international opposition, but domestically, a growing number of members of both parties believe the US killing the deal just a couple of years after it was made would do severe harm to US credibility, and provoke a backlash against the US, not Iran.
What to expect after US govt annuls the agreement with Iran, EU, Russia, and China?
Will US start arming Iranian peoples which want to dismember Iran? And at some point of time also start bombing Iran?
It is called MEK, based in Iraq under US protection and has been US financed for +20 years. Killed dozens of Iranians inside Iran. Israeli trained and directed.
Now, that’s utter stupidity on the Trump administration’s part, P.J. London, instead, we should be in agreement with the EU, China, and Russia, in preserving the Iran Nuclear Deal, even the American public chimed in with their opposition to any annulment or change of the deal, they know darn well that the US gov’t can’t afford to alienate Europe, China and Russia.
This nuclear deal was signed by Trump’s predecessor, Barack Obama, which was the only truly positive action he’s taken in his whole 8 years in office, and this is no reason to annul it.
The MEK was already designated a terrorist organization by Congress, during Obama’s tenure in office, and that hasn’t changed; it’s still a terrorist organization, and the USG’s in violation of both US and International law by protecting and financing it. Killing innocent Iranians, as MEK had done, is murder, pure and simple.
The Trumpets will just say, ‘he’s part of the swamp, look at N. Korea (which now has nuclear armed ICBM’s) full steam ahead’.
Iran’s totally different from North Korea, Chris, it’s been a peaceful country that hasn’t attacked its neighbors in over 300 years; plus, Ayatollah Ali Sayyed Khameini had issued a religious decree, banning the development, importation, and use of nuclear weapons; thus, Iranian nuclear scientists scrapped the nuclear weapons program and replaced it with a civilian program of medical isotopes and generating electricity.
The DPRK’s a Communist, atheist country that only developed nukes that only did so when its leader, Kim Jong-un heard about the murders of both Saddam Hussein (Iraq) and Muammar Gadaffi (Libya), after they had given up their WMD’s. In a way, Kim can’t be blamed for producing nukes, he’s just done it as a deterrent against aggression.
“Iran’s totally different from North Korea, Chris, it’s been a peaceful country that hasn’t attacked its neighbors in over 300 years”
Iran invaded Iraq in 1975 and kept an infantry battalion there for a year and a half.
A backlash against the USA is just what the world needs.
