On Monday, Lithuania’s President Dalia Grybauskaite told reporters that Russia is deploying more nuclear-capable Iskander missiles to the exclave of Kaliningrad, and that the weapons are a threat to “half of all European countries.”
NATO Deputy Secretary Rose Gottemoeller told reporters that the Lithuanian accusation was “a very serious matter.” Russian officials confirmed the deployment, saying it was a response to the US deployment of weapons into the same region.
The 9K720 Iskander is a short-range ballistic missile, which means the “half of Europe” claim isn’t really true. In practice, Iskander missiles in Kaliningrad can hit the Baltic states, and Poland.
Such tit-for-tat deployments have been ongoing in the Baltics for years, and the US-led NATO buildup in this area has come with repeated warnings from Russia that they would retaliate, and Iskanders in particular were a retaliatory deployment for US missile defense systems.
The cold war part 2✌🚀✈🛩🛰🛳🗽🏰
🇺🇸 Versus 🐻
Russia’s move is probably more of a concern to NATO because now they have to splash more cash in Latvia’s general direction to stop the whining.
Defensive move on the part of Russia to show deterrence to the Fourth Reich (USA) .
Kaliningrad is Russian territory, they are allowed to do what they like there.
Just goes to show you can’t trust the Russians to live up to or honor any agreement they make. It’s ok America is producing the perfect nuke for just this occasion. I say station nuclear bombers inside Baltic NATO nations , it’s there country they can host whoever they want in it, one good turn deserves another.
No regime can be trusted to live up to or honor any agreement they make, especially if they decide that it’s no longer in their interest to do so.
I’m glad you finally realized that and aren’t making excuses for them like almost everyone else on this forum. It’s like groundhog day on this site America evil everyone else good, everyday same thing.
I “finally realized” that decades ago.
Yes, some here seem to think that the American regime is uniquely evil. I’ve never felt any need to pretend that foreign despots aren’t despots as an excuse to oppose the actions of domestic despots.
What is the upside to making a heavily armed nuclear state nervous? The phrase is overused, but nukes really are a “game changer”. Even mini nukes at .3kT (300 tons) would require something 10 full b-2’s to replicate conventionally.
Look at the missile defense systems Japan just aquired,a little modification and you have a system that can project nuclear tipped missiles. Why do you think Russia is now placing missile defense systems in the disputed territories it has with Japan? Mini Nukes anyone?
for those that fail; to realize that the Cuban Missile Crisis had little to do wit Cuba as far as Russia was concerned and everything to do with Ike placing ballistic nuclear missiles on the Soviet border in Turkey and also on the Italian Border, When The Us promised to remove them then Russia removed the Nukes from Cuba……….. as an addition the US thought the Cuban Missiles did not have Nuclear weapons attached, the US based its strategy on that……when in fact they did, the US had false intelligence! Note also the comments of recent new weapons that the Russians also have, Extreme long rang torpedoes with 100 Kiloton Nukes on board……..Tsunami weapons. estimated five weapons to take out the Eastern Western and southern Seaboards, NO DEFENSE! don’t poke the bear
Yeah because the United States military hasn’t been developing there own new more advanced nuclear arsenal, wink wink. If you think for a minute America isn’t into the test phase of the mini Nukes that Russia knows is very capable of penetrating it’s airspace and going to be extremely hard for there missile defense systems to shoot down, seeing how it was designed to do just that and not to mention the new nuclear shower bombs are also in the developmental stages and now with the new nuclear upgrades the Trump administration is pumping in trillions for I’d say we’re going to be alright. We’ve got a bigger budget which means we’ve got more bombs.
The United States is a failing brand desperate for market share. What’s sad is peace-loving people, unlike yourself,
are roped into this mess by being so unfortunate as to have no ability to make the world a sane place.
Yeah because in you’re mind America isn’t on a selling spree of sophisticated military hardware and we’re a broke nation and our currency is worthless hahahaha keep telling yourself we’re in decline hey, maybe you should go to sleep and dream everything you said was real.
LOL “In practice, Iskander missiles in Kaliningrad can hit the Baltic states, and Poland.” Of course, the Poles live in constant fear of the naughty Russkies.
Which makes perfect sense to station nuclear bombers in there country to counter those naughty Russians evil intentions.
The Poles ain’t too crazy about the Germans neither. 😎
Guess which country just launched the world’s most powerful rocket today… Only in America 🚀
1940s technology developed by Germans. Only in America would people be so stupid to celebrate such a child’s toy, while covering up all the real antigravity craft.
I’m sorry we’re privatizing space over here we allow capitalism to prevail this isn’t Russia where only “there” government has a monopoly on space exploration. I guess when you’re #1 haters like you are going to hate.
Antigravity? Kewl.
How bout dat. Russia’s got nukes too.
