Residents of the city of Ariha, in Syria’s Idlib Province, report warplanes attacked a crowded marketplace on Tuesday, killing at least 15 people and wounding 20 others. Opposition figures claimed they were Russian strikes.
Residents, however, said they were completely unable to identify the attacking warplanes because they were flying far too high to see markings. This was suggested by some opposition groups as proof it was Russians, as Syria’s planes generally fly much lower.
Russia and Syria are the two nations that conduct most of the airstrikes in Idlib, though the US-led coalition has done so at times. Recently, Syrian forces have been carrying out an offensive in the province, which makes it less likely the US would strike a random market there.
Attacks on markets have been a recurring problem throughout the Syria War for all nations carrying out airstrikes, as seemingly the impulse to hit a high value target is too much for any of them to resist, despite such strikes almost never hitting anything but civilians.
Russia doesn’t tend to oopsie bomb civvies nearly as much as the U.S. or Syrian government, but they’re new to intervention and bad habits need time to take hold.
There’s no guarantee in a warzone, bombs dropped out of jets from the sky explode causing massive casualties doesn’t matter who drops them. When these headlines are America bombs kill civilians everyone has something to say about how evil that is when Russia does it we get excuses . Just like that article about Turkey detaining Anti-war protesters yesterday 3 comments about it on an Anti-war site but, let it be America not even arresting but, breaking up a protest and the forum would be full of commentary. That’s why I say people on this site are either foreign employs trying to spread there propaganda or they’re a bunch of hypocrites because they can’t seem to find it in them to criticize anybody else but America even though everyone else is doing the same thing.
Ah, yes, because it’s completely unnatural for Americans to be more aware of and concerned with American news than foreign news, and with what “their” government does than what other governments do.
Feel free to cite any “excuses” offered for Russians bombing civilians.
It’s not they’re un- concerned it’s because they’re biased. If what you’re saying is true than how come everytime Bianca comments on this site she’s making her arguments based on foreign news because no one believes what the MSM is reporting on the many conflicts around the world. That’s the narrative here, don’t believe the MSM but, believe all the other alternate information fed by foreign countries, y’all do it on this forum all the time. Now when a foreign country is doing the exact same thing like bombing civilians and arresting Anti-war protesters no one is critical of those acts it’s dis-ingenuise to pretend it’s anything but, hypocritical. War is war whether it’s in Iraq, Syria, Ukraine etc. When an innocent child is killed by a bomb blast or a stray bullet it doesn’t matter who dropped it or shot it ,all that should matter is it happened and it was wrong. This site is called Anti-war Mr.Knapp not America Anti-war even though it seems like that’d be a better name for it. The time for excusing the biased, hypocritical, viewpoints of people who are posing as antiwar but are truly anti-America is right now. It’s not hard to see y’all posted a story about Turkey arresting Anti-war protesters yesterday and got 3 comments, where are all the Anti-war people’s comments? I forgot Turkey is on bad terms with America right now so let’s give them a pass…As far as people being concerned about they’re own government’s affairs that’s true but, you’ve got lots of people who comment on this forum daily that say they aren’t American citizens and are critical of what America is doing. I guess you can have it both ways on this site as long as it’s America you’re criticizing….
“You” have really mastered the art of blathering on about absolute nonsense. Who is biased?? independent media from around the world that actually cares about giving accurate accounts of the news?? The MSM is in bed with the US government which is why there is no accurate reporting of world events. Why have all of the MSM reports about Assad been primarily false?? because the US government wants a narrative that favors its Israel agenda, and that means destroying every country around Israel aka: Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan. You are such a lightweight that your ability to be rational has been severely compromised. Why are you here?? You are no cowboy, but you are surely one who revels in deceit. Stay at the Faux News, and CNN forums where your kind belong…
Really I guess when the MSM reports about the NATO battalions building up on Russia’s borders and it reports on the nuclear Armadas stationed off the coasts of North Korea or the Freedom of Navigation exercises in the South China Sea it’s all fake news that you ignorant people eat up and whine about how evil America is and how our military is so much stronger because we’ve mastered the art of capitalism and run laps around the world in the form of currency and our military, you’re a joke. Look when you quit eating up and believing everything our media and your media feeds you than talk to me until then your just another delusional ignorant excuse for a citizen spewing the narrative your fed. In the meantime I’m BBQn ribeye steaks on my grill while you wish you could just smell it …
Sounds like you’re grilling steaks, not barbecuing (slow smoking) them. Grilling sounds better anyway. I love a good ribeye or slab of prime rib, but I don’t particularly like them smoked.
Commenters on Antiwar.com do not speak for Antiwar.com, and we aren’t responsible for their opinions. They’re allowed to express theirs, just like you’re allowed to express yours. And yet I don’t see you yelling that Antiwar.com agrees with you because it allows you to comment.
As you just pointed out, we ran an article on Erdogan having anti-war protesters arrested. Do you want me to manufacture fake comments to make you feel better or something?
Well said, but that honesty will surely confound the oblivious. Cheers.
… So what about them? There’s lots of Russians critical of Russian intervention as well, scribbling away in Russian blogs. Far more reliably they are being paid by someone to take one side or another. But this isn’t supposed to be a competition.
Luke 12:48 – But he that knew not and committed things worthy of stripes, shall be
beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall
much be required; and to whom men have committed much, of him they will
ask the more.
(I’m sure some Western Pagan said it first…)
You should be pleased that even now, more is expected of American behavior than her geopolitical peers and competitors.
Ruthlessly turning a gunship on that Medecins Sans Frontiers (MFI) Afghan hospital in Kuduz, back in October 2015 was a heck of an oopsie bomb that totally tops barrel-bombing in deliberation. One totally understands the operational usefulness in denying the enemy comfort. Its just the moral uselessness thing that nags.
If the U.S. will false flag chemical strikes then false flagging a conventional strike is not unreasonable to consider.
In any case Russia early on did take scrupulous pains not to kill civilians and did initially avoid dropping bombs on terrorists who moved arms caches into civilian areas and brazenly used human shields. Any – possible – change in the attitude and morale of Russian pilots is noteworthy and could affect Russia’s ability to end the conflict.
The U.S. instigated this whole mess and a few others. It was totally unnecessary. Indigenous leaders have always proven completely capable of terrorizing their own people all by themselves.
“The Syrian Side of the Story You Never Hear” – Ted Snider, May 23, 2017, Antiwar. com
Russia and Syria are ALLIES, so any ‘blame Russia’ stuff is CRAP! I thought this site would know that!
US forces will NOT just leave Syria after Syria thought it had won, our imperialist, greedy, bullying, destructive, controlling jackasses want control of EVERYTHING.
