Following up on Tuesday’s statements from Vancouver that the US and allied nations want to ignore the North Korea diplomatic efforts with South Korea and pursue new sanctions, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson piled on with a threat of US military action against North Korea.
Tillerson’s position doesn’t make a lot of sense with all factors considered, suggesting the US goal is negotiations, and that the US would respond to North Korea’s refusal to negotiate with military force against them.
In reality, North Korea has repeatedly suggested negotiations in recent weeks, and been rebuffed every single time by the US. Tillerson is clearly aware of this, as every time he’s suggested talks, he too has been condemned by other Trump Administration officials.
The US position, as stated now, boils down to pretending diplomacy is not ongoing and threatening to start a massive war with North Korea to punish them for the lack of diplomacy, even though important bilateral talks are in fact ongoing and the only reason the US isn’t involved is that the US refuses to participate.
This makes the position increasingly puzzling and nonsensical, as the US keeps threatening war despite positive developments, presents diplomacy as an end-goal while spurning every opportunity to engage in it, and accusing North Korea of trying to “trick” people by offering talks at all.
Just as Kim starts sounding more rational and talking to S Korea, the USG foreign policy/MIC, ratchets up the rhetoric. Tillerson obviously wants Kim to respond with some kind of ‘threat’ (i.e., warning).
Don’t fall for Tillerson’s bait, Kim. Keep talking peace while the USG screams.
T Rex, do us all a favor; keep your big mouth shut, while Kim Jong-un and his S. Korean counterpart, Moon Jae-in have their talks. They already succeeded in getting the two nation’s Olympic athletes to participate together, and now have gone on to discuss possible reunification of these two nations.
If Germany could reunite, then why not the two Koreas? Korea had been one nation for centuries, even when a protectorate of Japan. It was divided at the 38th Parallel at the end of WWII and still divided today.
Give it up, T Rex; Kim isn’t listening to your bluffs .. Your boss stopped tweeting his idiotic bluffs once he learned the two nations’ athletes will be participating in the Olympics together. Stop behaving like a 2-year-old and accept the inevitable.
The master at oil price manipulation is at it again.
Do you really believe that he is not speaking for the President this time?
Those who underestimate Trump’s resolve in this matter are fooling themselves. When the US says North Korea MUST de-nuclearize – it means it MUST, not that there will be “talks” which would allow DPRK to keep its nukes. That’s not going to happen. I don’t know why some find it so astonishing that the US would attack another country. like, hello ?
We threaten(again)North Korea with war. We say we’re staying in Syria and Assad must go(again). We also demand that Iran must renegotiate the nuke deals or else. Good weeks worth of work for the exceptional one.
Poor T Rex seems confused as to the behavior of a diplomat. I suppose they are so rare in the USA and he looks at the way Hillary acted and realises he is unsure what he can do. Threats are normal in US foreign policy.
Tillerson is useless, but I repeat myself…
It makes perfect sense if you understand that the US wants to seize the six to ten trillion dollars of undeveloped natural resources in North Korea and place large military bases on China’s border.
In other words, just like Iraq was all about the OIL and to setup an attack on Iran (for Israel), so North Korea is not about nukes but about MONEY and containing China.
And of course war – in North Korea and Iran – means more profits for the military-industrial complex.
