President Trump set the stage for today’s discussion at the UN General Assembly on Iran, once again angrily condemning the deal as the worst in American history, while demanding new international measures against Iran, and endorsing regime change.
Trump’s comments were echoed by Israel, of course, but he doesn’t appear to have a lot of other Western countries on board with hostility toward the P5+1 nuclear deal. French President Emmanuel Macron in particular was critical of Turmp’s position.
Macron warned that the ongoing difficulty with North Korea was exactly why getting more hostile toward Iran was a bad idea. He warned breaking off discussions with Iran and resorting to threats would likely lead to Iran getting a nuclear weapon, just as North Korea has.
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson backed Trump’s position, however, warning that the world needs to accept broad US-mandated changes to the P5+1 nuclear deal, and would face the US withdrawing from the deal if they didn’t give in to all of America’s demands.
On foreign policy Trump has done a complete 180. he has become a true neoconservative and those of us who voted for him mainly because of his promise to disengage from the Middle East are truly disappointed. The only consolation is to know that if Hillary won we would have already been at war with Iran and perhaps Russia. We must of course look for another candidate now. I hope Ron Paul might consider another run. That is of course if this last election was not truly the last election.
“…if Hillary won we would have already been at war with Iran and perhaps Russia.”
tell me nobody can be this stupid
It’s a pretty deep well.
I guess….
You appear to be, walter. Billary has been a chicken hawk for her entire putrid career in politics.
You are right. Hillary is just the muppet for the power behind the throne. The most powerful office in the world may be kess powerful then a shaman’s office in the jungle. The power is pressing Trump, and he ups them by ten degrees. They press him more, just to show who is the boss really — and he ups the rethoric to the insane degree. The new meanung of Hillaty’s going higher. At some point the game of chicken must be resolved. Those that are pushing will have to consider consequences to themselves, the delicious money gravy train that they have been enjoying, the sure loss of “liberal” and “progressive” image, wrapped in human rights verbal diarrhea. At some point — going aling with Trump’s ever crazier rethoric will expose the Democratic leadership as scam that it is. How long can they stay on board with the “let’s nuke the world” platform, and not pay the price for supporting Trump? But at the same time, they cannot let him prevail, be the boss as they pull back from the brink.
This whole North Korea brouhaha is all about inside the Beltway politics — deadly one upmanship. And all of this, as the questions are beingbraised about the awsomeness of the military technology in Pacific. With all the sea snd land.based Aegis, Patriot defences in Japan, and other components of star wars, a mussile flew over Japan from N. Korea, not once, but twice without being intercepted. The ships with sophisticated radars colliding with lumbering cargo ships. Analysts are raising questions in the actual defences of US mainland. These are the questions large military contractors do nit want raised. Mattis replued that there was no danger from thise missiles, thus no need to shoot them down. Really? Then why all the fuss? Such questions were rather quietly being raised when Russia sent 14 cruise mussiles from Caspian Sea, across Iran, Iraq — to hit targets in Syria. No alarm was raised in Israel, as missiles comming from the direction of Iran hit targets jjust few hundred miles away from Israel. The technoligy us being put to test. Nit making Japan and South Korea feeling any better. As the pressure on these two grows to oppose any Chinese or Russian initiatives on North Korea, their interests are being sacrificed. Something will have to give.
Everybody has his price. We are in the clutches of merciless shadow piwer, and very clearly, Trump has to obey. Nobody can change like this — especially, as he always presented foreign policy in terms of strategy, unlike Hillary’s compartmentalized boxes. There is no way on earth that he did not understand that he was the voice of vast majority of people, especially our rank and file military, veterans and their families. It is impossible for him to suddenly acquire amnesia and forget who put him in the office. If indeed this was all just a ruse to get elected, then why all the animosity from Hard core neocon Republicans? You would think they will all love him and even let him play with the fence to keep the conservatives happy. Quite the opposite is happening. Democrat and Republican one party system hates him — organically. They all dug their heels and in jnison support the globalist view if the world — no borders, no state institutions, no democracy to exercise in the absence of any people controlled institutions. And no accountability for the elites that now pad their pockets with rapacious abandon, while there are no instruments of governance to hold them accountable.
Basically, the scum have gotten away with it for so long, and have progressed very far — to be now put in doubt by the deplorables.
Perhaps, this is his greatest sin. He woke up the resistance in a large segment if population. In their arrogance, they saw white America as dumb as dirt, good only fir supplying soldiers, and waving flags. And now, from the Infowars we hear anti globalist messages, anti interventionist avant-garde, intellectually outclassing the anti war left, and by far more in tune with the mood of population.
The imperialist crowd cannot believe that after all the pressure on the Trump voters, opinions have not changed. The globbe trotting no-border, unaccountable crowd — with all the actors they can hire — has not made a dent in getting people back into the flag waving ibedient brigades.
Now, they are pretty desparate to tell the world — to convince the world — that US can obliterate anybody that rauses head. And Trump is to deliver the message.
And Trump obeyed — and then some. Neocon establishment just does not want to learn. In spite of a clear evidence that America is losing allies, they want to squeeze allies even more. Trump is very obliging. US has in the last 35 years lost key Eurasian countries — Iran, Turkey, Iraq, Pakistan and India. It hhas already lost Egypt, and no frothing at the human rights mouths will change that. If this keeps up, watch South Korea and Japan gradually but surely mive closer to China and Russia.
By making the world divided into blocks, we made the world less friendly to trade and true connectivity. And Trump pointed this out on a number of occassions. He has however put in his UN speach one of his key principles on sovereign states being the corner stone of international relations. And clearly, without recognizing this principle, the world would sail into the chais of failed states, and misery for untold millions.
For as long as voters remain anti-globalist, the spark will remain alive. But it is utterly unclear why is our presumably liberal and educated population so blind to the dangers of neocon driven Anerica.
No, Hillary would have basically did the same thing as Trump. She would have had to get out of the deal first. On Russia, they have nukes and real ones at that. Even the witch knows that. Anyone who voted for Trump can keep consoling themselves by believing that Clinton would have been worse. But the fact is, the Donald IS Hillary with different wrinkled body parts being the ONLY difference.
Trump will allow Israel to get the USA into another Mid-East war there is little doubt about that. Then NK will have a free pass to continue arming
Noth Korea got a free pas when China said if N korea attacked we willhelp B Korea .
I’d like to see that lack of reaction to Trump’s ‘speech’ at the UN turned into the kind of isolation that makes America welch on the funding again. Donald probably has an eye on that prime riverfront real estate
So we break off from the Iran nuclear agreement because they will not agree to all our demands. Hmmm, this sounds a like hte beginning of WW One, where Serbia agreed to most — but not all — of Austria’s demands. So, Austria began hostilities, the Russians came in to back little Serbia and of course all the interlocking treaties triggered like dominoes. In the case of WW One, none of the actors expected the scope and destruction of the war that ensued.
Neeeeville Chamberlain, Neeeeville Chamberlain. That’s the only thing the sheep know how to say. It doesn’t matter that unlike Germany, Iran is keeping their word and hasn’t attacked anyone.
If I remember my history correctly, Germany under Hitler never broke its agreements…
YES… Drump needs to abrogate the Iran deal, and thus isolate the US from any allies (except bosses in Tel Aviv)
If the US isolates itself on the Iran deal, Iran is most likely to accept the gift of new found friends rather than antagonizing all of them by going nuclear. They would know better than to rescue the US from its diplomatic foolishness. The entire structure built up against Iran could fail, leaving Iran open to the world and the US isolated on nuclear issues. It would be a catastrophe for the Netanyahu/Saudi hopes. They’d lose all they’ve gained, and any hope for their plots against Iran.
You’re absolutely correct, Mark .. If the US foolishly isolates itself on the Iran deal, Iran’s most likely to accept the gift of new-found friends rather than antagonizing them all by going nuclear. They’d certainly know better than to rescue the US from its diplomatic idiocy .. The entire structure built up against Iran could readily fail, leaving Iran open to the world and the US isolated on nuclear issues. The US regime would lose all they’ve gained, and certainly any hope for their plots against Iran.
Iran had already scrapped any plans for developing nukes and its Supreme Leader, Sayyed Ali Khameini, issued a fatwa (religious decree) against the development, importation and use of nukes, and that fatwa’s never been broken .. Instead, it led to the Iran Nuclear Deal that was signed by both Barack Obama and his Iranian counterpart .. the same deal Donald Trump wants to toss out.
How can so many think DJT is or was ever antiwar? He promised everything to everyone but he campaigned against the Iran agreement from the start. He had Bannon who thinks we are in a civilisational war. He took a $25 mil campaign donation from Sheldon Adelson which tells you everything you need to know.
He is Obama on steroids and Obama was Bush on steroids. And on and on and on it goes…
Unbounded hypocrisy when Israel has nukes. The US is determined to complete the destruction of 7 countries revealed by Gen. Clark a decade ago: https://www.globalresearch.ca/we-re-going-to-take-out-7-countries-in-5-years-iraq-syria-lebanon-libya-somalia-sudan-iran/5166
He had to promise Iran just to get a sniff at the election process. This Iran issue, so paramount to Israel — has to be tested out by this President. If not, he would be out on his ears long time ago. But it is clear that nobody but Israel is following.
However, Israel’s castles of sand are slowly being erroded. Iran is no longer the only country capable to defend Middle East from Israeli design. Russia is in the region militarily, and Iran having a different role. Turkey and Iran are now partners, and Turkey that was never allowed to operate Patriot missile defense — has signed up for a vastly superior S-400. With Russian radar on Azerbaijan that covers Europe and Middle East up to and including Indian Ocean — the knowledge of potential threat has vastly improved. With Iraq slowly marching towards tighter intelligence information with Russia and Iran — is no longer being ambushed by rag tag armies. Israel should not be happy with that. Israel is being almost isolated, and after the soft coup which saw neocon hope, crown prince M. bin Najaf ousted, knows very well that different winds have bliwn over Arabia.
And when the new Crown Prince declares brotherly love for Israel — there is a kiss if a Don resonating out there. Iran? This one has sailed away long time ago.
Will neocons mind pushing us to poverty to ger their way? Sure, thry will risk everybody’s interests, but their own.
