Israeli warplanes carried out an overnight attack against a Syrian military base in the Hama Province, causing considerable damage to the facility and killing at least two people. Syria confirmed the incident, but Israel has yet to officially comment.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said they believed the facility hit was a scientific research center, which was storing surface-to-surface missiles. Others speculated it might conceivably have something to do with chemical weapons, because chemical weapons have been in media reports recently.
The Israeli attack was carried out from inside Lebanese airspace, with warplanes never entering Syria, and instead just firing a flurry of missiles from inside Lebanon. Lebanon has little to no air defense, and Israel routinely violates its airspace.
It’s not unusual for Israel to deny comments on attacks in Syria, though those attacks tend to be centered on convoys, or on random military bases in Golan. This is a very unusual strike, and is likely to continue to fuel speculation about what happened.
Since the targeted base is in western Syria, it’s likely to provoke some Russian response, as they’ve generally forbade Israel from any operations that close to their own bases in Syria.
I don’t care how much Putin wants to avoid trouble with Israel, they need to start shooting down Israel planes – no matter in who’s airspace they are when they attack. Russia needs to send a clearer message to Israel to BUTT OUT.
Israel didn’t have any skin in the game in Syria, therefore they get no place at the table. They violate sovereign airspace to attack a nation that hasn’t attacked them? Please, someone put them in their place.

Israel lives of drama and fantasy, and spreading rummors of some mysterious facility, with chemical weapons being “in the news”, is just a typical echo chamber, with some UN official kickining of fake news.
What really is happening is the last ISIS gasp in Central Syria. This is a clear assistance to ISIS — as once the pocket is gone, the entire ISIS
focus shifts to the space between Deir Azzor, and Iraqi border. Kurds and SDF are still in Raqqa and Hassaka regions, battling left-behind dispensable ISIS, but more worryingly to US, the local Sunni Syrians did not greet Kurds with flowers, but with resistance.
US attempted to have them join local governance, but there is no deal, as US insists on SDF — Kurds — being in charge. Kurds are NOT a majority in ANY Syrian Governorste, and are majority in a very limited area. Given the history of Kurdish collaboration and priviledged status during French colonial period, the alliance with US is seen as just another opportunism to gain land and power. The ethnic cleaning in Manbij is foremost on the minds of Arabs, Turkmen and others. Raqqa is in fear of Kurd retribution, and in the name of taking revenge on ISIS — people would be forced to flee. It is already apparent — over 160,000 people have fled bombing raids in which civilians are the only victims. Who is SDF really fighting in Raqqa. It is very, very confusing right now, but it is slowing down progress by SDF forces. This is why there are provocations coming from Afrin, blaming Turkish militants — but all along trying to break through Al-Bab in order to send reinforcements to Raqqa. What medIA DELIBERATELY glosses iver is the fact, that Kurds from Afrin and Aleppo are NOT and never have been part of US supported SDF. And this means that less then 25% of Syrian Kurds are the only ethnic group US has as allies on the ground. And this is probably a too high estimate, as high percentage of Kurds live in cities. Given that Kurds are 8-10% of Syrian population, and that most of them support Damascus — the idea that US, and Kurds on the ground can actually defeat ISIS, and occupy the Iraqi border region by Kurds, is impossible without US ground forces occupying hostile population. This will not be the first time such a schema has been used. In Afghanistan, Taliban were gione within days of US invasion. After that — US stayed to fight lAfghan tribes, and keeps calling them Taliban. Hopefully, this will not happen in Syria.
Israel has one overwhelming goal — to keep US military in the region, and continue stirring things up, until some other piece of territory can be appropriated. Every neocon scribe already is urging US to stay. And neocon Grand Puba, Kissinger, is arguing that Syria success against ISIS. — is a victory for Iran. As the reality is setting in — that there are no good rebels, and bad ones are being beaten by Syria — Israel is trying to prop the last remaining pocket in Hama. And wrapping it up in science fiction.
It was premature to demand war on Iran. It would have been much more prudent to nurture relationships with Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Gulf states, Iraq, Sytia and Turkey. Instead, they all are treated by neocons as weak, wounded and vulnerable — all to be dismissed snd ptovoked. So nkw that tables are Turning it is too late to play nice. Forget Teheran. Soon, Israel will have to worry about Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Putin knows that the winds are fast changing in the Middle East.
