By Justin Raimondo
Let’s say you’re the President of the United States — okay? And you’re on the brink of escalating what promises to be a wider, more intense war than that which George W. Bush launched in Iraq. You’ve already sent in reinforcements, but you’re undecided about just how many more troops you’re going to send to Afghanistan – could be 20,000, could be 40,000, or even 60,000. But, in any case, you’ve ruled out withdrawal and diplomacy: the only option you have left is more war.
In addition, you’re moving – slowly but surely – toward full-scale involvement in Pakistan, where your drones are daily wreaking death and destruction on innocent civilians, and destabilizing a government that is increasingly hostile to your machinations – even though you’re bribing them with billions that never reach their ostensible beneficiaries and only serve to fatten the purses of your Pakistani sock-puppets.
On top of that, you’ve just told the Palestinians that they must live with Israeli “settlements” and forced the UN to ignore an official report detailing the killing of thousands of innocent men, women, and children by IDF forces armed by the US.
On top of that, you’re pushing through Congress a record military spending bill that keeps the US spending more than the top 45 nations on earth combined on weapons and methods of war.
So, naturally, as a reward for all your strenuous efforts on behalf of keeping the world a place that is less safe, less stable, and less worth living in than at any time since the outbreak of World War II, you are bestowed with – yes, that’s right, the Nobel Peace Prize. This, however, isn’t just any Nobel Peace Prize – oh no It’s a Bizarro Peace Prize – the natural result of us having slipped through a crack in the space-time continuum, and landed in a world where up is down, right is left, and war is peace – Bizarro World!
For years – ever since the 9/11 terrorist attacks – I’ve been saying that the sheer force of the explosions that sent us hurtling into a nightmare world of color-coded terrorist alerts and hunts for “weapons of mass destruction,” must have ripped a hole in the very fabric of reality. So that, today, we’re living in an alternate universe, where the laws of logic and reason are repealed – Bizarro World.
For a while there I thought we might be heading back toward reality, or at least some more rational version of it, and that what I call the Bizarro Effect might be wearing off. However, this morning’s shocker – the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to an American president about to launch a decades-long military occupation, even as he promises (so far to little effect) to bring another occupation to an end — has dashed that hope beyond redemption.
And as if to underscore the fact that we are still living in the world we woke up to on September 11, 2001, a top official of the Democratic National Committee – communications director Brad Woodhouse – has issued the following statement in response to guffaws from the peanut gallery:
“The Republican Party has thrown in its lot with the terrorists – the Taliban and Hamas this morning – in criticizing the President for receiving the Nobel Peace prize.”
As Obama prepares for war, and yet more war, anyone who questions this is a terrorist – and peace be with you, my son.
Maybe they just want to encourage good behavior after the awful behavior of the past eight years, but if that is so they are likely to be disappointed. What bothers me is that the White House has never solicited any advice from anyone who has opposed the whole misguided imperial agenda. It's all the same hacks all the time recommending more of the same. McChrystal's AfPak plan is little more than a neocon fantasy. Obama must see through it all but I assume he thinks it is easier to go with the flow…
Perhaps this signals a shift in the way the world thinks and Paris Hilton will win an Academy Award–finally! I think she's at least as deserving.
Paris "came out" into the limelight after a certain sexual tape went viral. We, the poor sods of the USSA, are being screwed in ways she couldn't hold a candle to.
We must understand that in this Bizarro World, one of the characteristics is the Death of Meaning.
Events are not Facts but factoids. Critical thinking doesn't work. Logic is also dead and there is no more TRUTH.
On the contrary, as Hakim Bay said,
"Nothing is true, everything is permitted."
Of course, if nothing is true, it's also not true that nothing is true, consequently, there is no Meaning.
The Bizarre world is oximoronic.
Well, I hope this have some meaning for you.
As a citizen truth exists. This isn't postmodern literature. Sometimes you can discover the truth and sometimes you can't, but speaking the truth and free yourself of cognitive dissonance is much better than any plan.
ha! what bullsh^t
Maybe Obama could donate his "Peace" Prize winnings to those he has orphaned. There are thousands of them. But hey, they're just a bunch of rag-headed terrorists disguised as women and children. They got what they deserved, right Barack?
The sheer absurdity of it all; the president of the United States is awarded a "peace prize" while the government he leads is still engaged in two hot wars and has been for nearly eight years! George Orwell must be having a good laugh right now; many of his predictions are coming true right before our eyes.Yes, we cannot deny it; immoral, unjustified, aggressive and perpetual war is now defined as "peace." A warning to all of us from Orwell's book, 1984; "But always—do not forget this, Winston—always there will be the intoxication of power, constantly increasing and constantly growing subtler. Always, at every moment, there will be the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling on an enemy who is helpless. If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face … for ever." Was he describing Guantanamo? Abu Ghraib? The American people tomorrow? Start praying for God's help; we are going to need it.

My god, who would have been the second choice? It's like giving israel a humanitarian award for what they did to the folks in Gaza.
Mr. Obama is doing a great job fulfilling his campaign promise of increased foreigner killing and it is not very nice of those socialist pacifist Europeans to try and interfere with Mr. Obama's promise keeping.
Nobel Peace Laureate Obama also has to send more kids to die in the mountains because that is what peaceful people do. Only unserious crazies would send zero kids or negative numbers of kids to die in the mountains. Do you think those Afghan and Pakistani women are going to learn physics all by themselves?

What the hell? Beam me up, Scotty!
It must have been close between Obama and Avidor Lieberman. The committee was made up of a twit and four very stupid women.
I'm afraid we'll need re-education camps for you all. Don't you know how great our Dear Leader is? We have to bomb those people into peace(s).
First thing that came to my mind–when Israel was bombing the poor defenceless Palistinians in Dec. 2008,Obama turned his back on these folks and said,Im not the president at this time, don't bother me now.
But he did get envolved in commenting on the Georgia/russia conflict. I got news for you, Obama got the peace prize/money for helping Israel getting more pieces of Palistine :^/
Not sure about the indignation or surprise here. In 1994 Yasser Arafat, Shimon Peres and Yitzhak Rabin received the same price. Not much later Rabin was dead while the results of a shaky Oslo went nowhere.
As such the price was meant to encourage the atmosphere of dialog, to emphasize the general approach. Obama's approach, the outspoken intention and first steps of initiated dialog and declaring the goal of nuclear disarmament are exactly in line with the purpose of the price awarded here.
Some other years the price was based on accomplishments over many decades but this year the price meant to contribute to a development. Bizarre or not, it's consistent with the history of this price.
This is also my criticism on the "Bizarro World" hypothesis, the idea that something happened in 2001 that crossed the line. To me it seems like the same old business. Perhaps more outlined, more exaggerated than ever, but the world has become more complex and networked, drawing new attention toward its very mechanism.
"The Republican Party has thrown in its lot with the terrorists – the Taliban and Hamas this morning – in criticizing the President for receiving the Nobel Peace prize."
In response to that comment, the GOP are filing a copyright infringement lawsuit.
He just edged out Bennie(Let's drop a few more Phosphorus bombs for good measure) Netan…yahoooo!
What else can I say? Give 'em all the awards!
