The third general appointed so far to a major cabinet position, President-elect Donald Trump has selected former SOCOM commander Gen. John Kelly to serve as his first Secretary of Homeland Security, putting him at the head of the third largest Cabinet department.
Kelly is described primarily as a “border security hawk” and most analysts say he will face little Congressional opposition, despite some concerns that there are too many recent military leaders in top positions in the incoming administration.
Gen. Kelly’s career is not without controversy, however, clashing with President Obama over attempts to close the Guantanamo Bay detention center and mockingly dismissing human rights groups’ questions about how the US treats detainees as “foolishness.”
Though Kelly’s appointment is primarily seen as centering around Trump’s desire to build a border wall, his appointment may also impact the general war on terror, as Gen. Kelly has scorned the idea of trying to understand the motivations of enemy forces in the conflict, insisting they are just “irrationally” driven to attack the US for no reason.
Military men have one tool in their toolbox: force. “When the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.”
Exactly, Ron. Instead of picking anyone – John Kelly included – to head such a bestial department as Homeland “Security” at all, what Trump should do is leave the post empty; and, after assuming office, he should abolish it altogether .. including TSA .. and return airport security to the airlines themselves.
Homeland Insecurity and its sex-offender infested subsidiary (TSA) were established under the G. W. Bush Regime and remained under the Obama Regime .. In fact, they grew worse under Obama. Sex assaults on infants, toddlers, children (including teenagers) and adults (including elderly and disabled) proliferated at several major US airports. Under Obama, TSA agents weren’t vetted for criminal backgrounds (especially, sex offenses). At least, private security firms hired by the airlines thoroughly vetted potential security agents before hiring .. thus, ensuring that nobody with any type of criminal record was hired, and no travelers were sexually assaulted.
We don’t need a Cheka-style agency harassing innocent people whatsoever. We have local and state police, as well as the FBI, to ensure this nation’s safety. Homeland Insecurity has failed miserably in its duty to protect innocents from terrorist attacks; and, instead, made this nation less safe.
