Still considered among the candidates for President-elect Donald Trump’s Secretary of State, John Bolton is continuing to underscore his longstanding aversion of trying to come up with diplomatic solutions by urging the US to impose a regime change on Iran.
Bolton has long called for bombing Iran, and long criticized the nuclear deal with Iran. Today he said he thinks Iranians would probably welcome a “new regime,” though he conceded that whoever the US ended up installing might not be particularly democratic.
Bolton suggested in his comments that the US regime change would mostly involve picking an opposition group to start backing, suggesting it might not even require the direct use of US military force. The opposition factions with Iran are fairly limited. The main rebel groups in Iran are regional, though as with fellow State Dept. candidate Rudolph Giuliani, Bolton is seen as particularly keen on long-time terrorist group the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MeK).
While reports of Giuliani giving paid speeches on behalf of the MeK appeared to severely hurt his candidacy, Bolton’s own history of advocacy for the group has mostly gone under the radar, despite him being an outspoken supporters of both MeK and regime change for a long time.
Bolton provided no good reason for a regime change in Iran after the P5+1 nuclear deal, insisting simply that they are a “long-term problem” in his view. Bolton had similarly made Iraq a “long-term” subject of interest through the 1990s, and was seen as one of the architects of the 2003 US invasion and occupation. Despite how badly that went, he seems eager to give it another shot with the even larger nation of Iran.
Get rid of John Bolton! He is dangerous maniac, able to provoc another, new war. Give him a boot forever!
And all other dual citizens.
John Bolton is without one of the most dangerous vitupertive and venemous neo-con interventionist fx ckwits on the planet. Shorn of his walrus moustache, Bolton along with Clintons, Obamas, Bushes, Wolfowitzs, Perles, Rumsfelds, Cohens, Nulands, Powers, Rices and their ilk should all be exiled to some remote nether-region of Libya or Iraq where they can be forced to rebuild with their bare hands the broken homes, hospitals, factories, bridges, power plants and destroyed infrastructure left in the wake of the illegal bombing raids which they championed, and to provide care for the countless maimed, injured and wounded upon whom they callously inflicted the most outrageously murderous campaigns of wanton and brutal destruction. If Trump signs this POS on to his team, then ‘ye who enter here must abandon all hope’, for the future of humanity will be lost to an endless and unrelenting cycle of violent intervention, conflict and catastrophe of a magnitude only equal to that which had been promised by the Clinton.
Put it this way- if I had known John Bolton was even CLOSE to Trump’s proximity I would have had some reservations voting for Trump! Trump wants to “improve relations with Russia” with a war mongering neocon in his government? Anyone who was in any way instrumental in the war-related policies of the USG these past thirty or so years should be permanently banned from holding a high government position! Those wars were planned and totally based on lies!
Well, I’m glad he picked Sen. Jeff Sessions as the next Attorney General, and retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn as National Security Advisor. Those were his two best picks. This is evidence Trump is serious about changing this nation’s policies on both law and security. Both Sessions and Flynn have years of experience in their professions and will ensure that all illegal aliens who’ve committed crimes here are deported to their respective countries after they’ve served their time in a maximum security prison.
Let’s hope that Trump keeps both Rudy Giuliani and John Bolton away from the White House. Both are totally unfit to be Secretary of State. Giuliani has NO foreign policy experience, and his actions during and after the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center leave much to be desired, to say the least. He had the wreckage removed before any investigation could be conducted; that’s a felony right there.
As for “Bonkers” Bolton, he totally disgraced the post of US Ambassador to the UN with his crazy, outlandish outbursts when the General Assembly was in session, and was just as disgraceful when the Security Council was in session. He even outdid Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin (Bibi) Netanyahu with his antics.
Trump will have to find someone who’s experienced in diplomacy and foreign policy as SOS, which isn’t easy. Choosing either Bolton or Giuliani would be comparable to choosing Hillary Clinton or Madeleine Albright.
I was unaware that illegal immigrant criminals were the most pressing law enforcement and security issue facing the US these days.
As for who Trump will put in positions of authority and their character, only time will tell. You’d be foolish to think that Trump is actually going to live up to most of the promises he made on the campaign trail. All politicians lie, lie, lie to get elected, and Trump is no different.
Yeah, Bolton, that worked out soooo well the last time the US did ‘regime change’ in Iran, ousting Mossadegah and installing the brutal Shah. Genius. Maybe the Pahlavi son is still around, US Puppet Junior.
Is there a political party that does not despise democracy? Don’t all or nearly all politicians and clergy hate above all else democracy?
John Bolton is a mad dog.He is dangerous for USA and for the world. From what corner of hell such characters appear?
Yes, let’s start alienating (even more) the one nation in the region we need to be making an ally of in a big way. Bolton is a huge liability for the US and he needs to go away. Resign, retire, or Hoffa-style, I don’t care- just go.
John Bolton has always been a pawn of the Israeli government and will advocate anything that they deem important for their survival. The neocons have by promoting US wars with every country around Israel cost we US tax payers several trillion dollars. We don’t need more debt.
Trump should show this mustachioed maniac the door. As far as Giuliani and his support for MEK is concerned – maybe that was done as a bone throw to anti-regime Iranians living here. I personally don’t know all that much about MEK except that the regime in Iran jailed and tortured a lot of them. This is the Paris group under Miriam Rajavi & husband (either dead or jailed?)–I think? Based in Paris. There seems to be a cult / corruption thing surrounding the Rajavis. well, anyway, being that Giuliani hasn’t really been part of a administration — so not directly part of neo-con policy making. The same can’t be said of Bolton.
John Bolton can go to Hell!
Mr Bolton, the US is the most dangerous militaristic government on the planet!
How about some regime change in the US.. out of the last 220 years, the US government has been involved in armed conflict, open or covert, for 200 of those 220 years! DRAIN THE SWAMP!
Further; would you care to show us all where within the Constitution it grants the authority for regime change?? I can’t seem to locate such an authority!
It’s always a “threat to USA security” that “justifies these lie-based exercises in nation-destroying and mass murder! If a nation has a “right to defend itself” all it has to do is define the threats in their own way to “justify” wars. Preemptive military strikes should ALWAYS be internationally banned
care to show us all where within the Constitution it grants the authority for a pre-emptive war/attack?
Guess who’s going to be looking for a job very soon.
So if USg has backed the malcontents of others in the past, and USg-connected people start recommending it again, … I’d reckon that’d make police state measures seem much more attractive to those others. Said measures would then facilitate further propaganda in the US.
So I don’t see how the US can be expected to deal with Bolton without crippling sanctions … or, really, apart from his indefinite interrogation somewhere far, far away.
Leave alone John Bolton. He is nut.And of course a dangerous one.
Now regime change is needed. Where ? Not in Iran. What is wrong with the regime in Iran.It represents the aspirations of the people there. The real regime change is needed in America.Any regime, be it Democratic or Republican does not represent the American people.True people queue to vote where they the choice is like Tweedledee and Tweedledum. Democratic, it represents the interests of Israel.Republican, the same. Both competitively grovel before Israel to exhibit servility .What choice the people have got?Americans do not have the freedom that they think they do have. In fact America is the most bonded society in the world. That is dangerous. How to achieve the desired regime change is the question.Perhaps the international community should take it up and help Americans have the real freedom that they are denied
You just grab your weapon out of the case John, grab the spare rounds, make sure you take enough, and don’t forget to clean and oil it.
Then get your butt over there. We won’t tell ’em your coming so you’ll have the element of surprise. Don’t forget to write.
Since the second Bush the 1% have been wanting WW 3. The people of Iran put up with the bastard the CIA put in in 1952. They kicked him out and the US of A has been pissed off ever since. When we have WW 3, I wonder if Tramp, sorry Trumps, kids are going to enlist or drafted
Bolton needs to be dead- the world would be a much better place.
