During his brief but heavily-anticipated prime time address, President Obama insisted simultaneously that the San Bernardino attack last week was not connected to any terrorist group, but that it represented a “new phase” of terrorism, in which groups are turning to “less complicated” acts.
He spent much of the address, despite having insisted there was no connection to ISIS, in defending the ongoing strategy in the ISIS war, and insisting he doesn’t want a major ground war in Iraq or Syria that would last a decade or more.
Adding to the conflicting messages of his address, Obama then urged Congress to grant him an authorization for the ISIS war, saying it was time for them to demonstrate America’s “unity” and that they are “committed to this fight.”
President Obama also confirmed US special forces were being sent into both Iraq and Syria in growing numbers, trying to contrast that to the larger occupations of previous wars, though as he continues to slowly escalate his numbers that distinction may be less and less significant.
Beyond this, Obama also urged Congress to ban anyone on any no-fly list from buying a gun, and to heavily restrict the buying of more advanced assault weapons by everyone, insisting US intelligence agencies can’t catch all attackers, but they can make it harder for them to obtain weapons.
He also promised to seek more unity among countries fighting in Syria, saying the US would call on their allies and also Russia to step up the battle, while suggesting that some sort of diplomatic settlement of the Syrian Civil War could be on the horizon.
BS, Obama just wants to kill Syrian civilians and bomb weeds in the desert pretending they are ISIS related.
How about urge Congress to accept responsibility and make a formal Declaration of War. If the US is going to be embroiled in this even more, we might as well do it right and stop with these idiotic 'Authorizations of Force'. If Congress is forced to vote on it, we get their names and numbers on where they stand, and it gets the issue in front of the public and on the official record. If Congress is go gung-ho for this, it should be a slam-dun, right? Or…. is Obama afraid to go the legal route, knowing his plans might go down in flames when Congress realizes it works for the public and not for him.
Congress knows who it works for – and it isn't the American people. And the last thing Congress wants is to go on the record, for or against.
Obama, count me out.
Oh boy, I can't wait for the day when the "No Fly List" becomes the "No Life List". After all, why should any Potential Terrorist Evil Doer be allowed to have a job to earn money that can be used to buy guns, or have a cell phone for communicating with Fellow Potential Evil Doers,or to rent an apartment that might be used to store guns and plan attacks, or have a drivers license or car that can transport guns and Evil Doers?
The tactic of refusing resident and work permits worked very well in the Soviet Union for harassing and suppressing dissidents. It can work even better in the U.S., since obviously "we" can do everything better than those backwards Rooskies.
Here is a fascinating passage of the address.
Muslim leaders here and around the globe have to continue working with us to decisively and unequivocally reject the hateful ideology that groups like ISIL and al Qaeda promote; to speak out against not just acts of violence, but also those interpretations of Islam that are incompatible with the values of religious tolerance, mutual respect, and human dignity.
Was he talking about Saudi Arabia? That I doubt. It probably was a major Freudian Slip.
Another disaster on the way.
This has to be the nasty equivalent of America 'buying the world a Coke'. America funded, supplied and nurtured ISIS. John McCain glad handed its leaders and called them 'friends'. Now Obama wants to declare a 'real' war on them,. He must know that he's going to win.
But there won't be any surrender, or victory parade either. The victory will demonstrate itself in the form of US with THEIR oil.
That's what this is really all about.
McCain's friends over there in Syria are the ones (4 or 5 soldiers) who want to take out Assad. Obama won't be bombing them.
The U.S. doesn't need the oil over there. We have more than enough over here. This is about regime change to remake the Middle East nations into puppet states.
Yeah, but that whole false flag war thing, it's over. We're not doing false flag war anymore. So, go ahead, pick a fight, better be able to finish the job yourselves — we're not doing your dirty work anymore, and that tax and debt slavery thing…over. It's time to convert to a hemp economy, kick the bankers out of the US!
> insisting he doesn’t want a major ground war in Iraq or Syria that would last a decade or more.
I thought all he wants are wars that last a decade or more. He kinda inherited these desires from his predecessor, didn't he?
