Though they still would not say if the initial deployment of ground troops into Syria had arrived yet, an anonymous Pentagon official told USA Today that the military is considering yet more deployments into the country.
Since launching its war against ISIS last year, the US has repeatedly announced small escalations on an extremely regular basis, with more troops being deployed all the time, more warplanes, and more Centcom predictions of a victory that never comes.
Still, the escalation will sit fine with Congressional leaders, as Rep. Mac Thornberry (R – TX) chair of the House Armed Services Committee, reiterated his calls for a “greater commitment” on the ground in Syria again today, promising to press the Pentagon on the matter at a Tuesday hearing.
That’s one of the milder calls, as Sens. John McCain (R – AZ) and Lindsey Graham (R – SC) are demanding 20,000 ground troops be immediately deployed to the war. The administration has avoided debate on its smaller, intermittent escalations by contrasting them to such broad, bellicose demands.

Indeed! But the US can afford to get bogged down. If things get too bad, it can just declare victory and leave. Putin can't do that. If he leaves, he loses his precious naval base. If he "wins", he's bogged down for ever more propping up his puppet. Heads Ukraine wins, tails Putin loses!

This sure seems stupid to me . unless the United States want to get some troops hurt so they can start a war with Russia . Now that Russia is killing the terrorists that we should have killed . The only reason to now send in ground troops would be to make it more difficult for Russia to eliminate terrorists .

Oh, I think they learned a lesson…that they can do whatever they want and the American people will fall into line behind them, perhaps not willingly, at first, but eventually. The Congresscritters understand that the American people don't have the stomach to fight the politicians for ownership of the country.

Keeping US forces to a minimum actually forces Putin to bog himself down even more. It might even force him to commit ground troops. Look at how he has bogged himself down so far. He started playing the "neutral" mediator, then he plunged into the fighting, LBJ-style, now, confronting Turkey, he's sent in fighters to escort his bombers and tons of anti-aircraft hardware to fight an ISIS that has no aircraft. Classic mission creep!
