Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon today dismissed calls from far-right politicians to resume “targeted assassinations” in the occupied West Bank and to conduct wholesale military invasions of Palestinian cities there, calling the moves “unnecessary.”
Ya’alon insisted that Israel’s military retains the capability to carry out covert arrest raids into all Palestinian cities without the trouble of an outright invasion, saying that if there were suspects they had good intelligence on it was easier to arrest them than carry out assassinations against them.
Ya’alon insisted the calls for more aggressive military action, championed primarily by former FM Avigdor Lieberman, as “sloganeering,” saying there was no way for a single military operation to restore calm in the occupied territories.
Lieberman responded by declaring this a “policy of containment and defeat,” insisting the Israeli government needs to have a “policy of decisive victory” that involves killing everyone who is involved in incitement to murdering Israeli Jews.
Is there a difference between "policy of decisive victory" and "a final solution?"
Shameless and shameful that this is allowed under the watcful eye of its benefactor.
Lieberman is advocating, and has for a long time, the eradication of the Palestinians in the occupied zone. Since the Israelis are the ones who always claim they know who is involved in the "incitement" it'll be easy for them to claim the ones they kill were inciting others. Isn't that why they lethally shoot stone throwing children?
Assassinations in the West Bank never stopped. They just call it by a different name. It is "arrests" that only produce dead bodies. Sometimes the arrest team lies in wait and shoots on sight, sometimes they just execute the perp when they see a Palestinian do something. It is all the same. The only difference is they don't need drones because they are on the scene in person.
