For the past several months, there have been reports that the US is increasingly coming on board with Russian calls for a “unity government” made up of the current Syrian government and secular rebels to fight against ISIS. It was therefore unsurprising that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov brought the matter up again in comments today.
The US has let such comments come and go several times, but today angrily rejected the report, saying that America’s position on Syria, and its opposition to Russia’s involvement in the fight against ISIS, remain wholly unchanged.
In the past couple of weeks the US has been railing against Russia’s military aid to the Syrian government, and has been trying to position itself as even more averse to the survival of the existing government than usual, irrespective of the “pro-US faction” that the US intends to install as the new government largely being non-existent.
State Department spokesman John Kirby insisted today that Russia’s support for the Syrian government, the largest secular faction fighting ISIS in Syria, “runs counter to any meaningful role” in fighting against ISIS. Russia maintains that its aid to Syria’s government hasn’t changed over the course of the entire civil war, and will not change irrespective of US opposition. They maintain that all the aid provided in recent days is in keeping with long-standing defense contracts.
The man wants to just go home and while banking his $200,000.+ yearly pension, let others in think tanks, flag waving VFW Redneck TEXAS Southern Mafia
and Armageddon waiting Christian zealots a GOP haws and military industrialist lead him onto a life of Luxury.
Heck he may get to be on TV for; lets see 3stars, against Obama. Hell fox will pay 75K for appearing.
I kinda feel sorry for him in a way, Here is an
American Warior, a man above lesser men; A man wanting a big fn war, he had spent all his life kissing ass to get three stars
appointments by Presidents, and now just
when he thought he could join the Pantheon of greats Patton and McCArthur by unleashing full might of US military his limp wristed Commander in Chief says “nope”.
SO now insteaf of leading the charge from a military office he has been reduced to being as a lame warhorse sent to pasture.
The Halls of Vallhala still await you old man .
Publicly the U.S. is complaining about Russia but Europe needs an immediate end to the refugee crisis. Putin has a chance to solve the ISIS problem for Europe and Washington has no choice but to stand by and complain.
Putin may well be trying to sell his intervention in those terms but, in fact, no one beleives that he can really bring about an end to the conflict or, indeed, even wants to. He just wants everybody to surrender to Assad so he can keep his (militarily useless!) naval base. The EU doesn't need an immediate end to the refugee crisis. It's actually very helpful. It's forcing the Member States ro come closer together as they realise that they can't deal with the refugees alone. They're moving towards a stronger common frontier protection force and, sicne so many of the refugees want to go to Britain, the British are beginning to see what would happen if they left the EU. "The wogs begin at Dover" says an old British joke. But if the "wogs" get as far as Dover, it's already too late and stopping them on the continent requires the co-operation of the other Member States.
Classic propaganda trick: fabricate the event by claiming it's already a fact. Putin is desperate to keep Assad in power at all costs because of the naval base and, for that very reason, the US will never agree to any government including Assad's faction. The Syrian civil war has become an extension of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the US is no doubt delighted to see Putin blundering ever more into the Syrian quagmire.
Russia did not invade Ukraine and did not annex Crimea. You buy the lies in the (WMD) NY Times.
Washington is ruled by stupid and uneducated man.Putin is more clever than Obama. One exemple : Putin do not agree with Erdogan about Syria. But both man discuss.Even more Erdogan was invited in Russia for the opening of a mosquee. Both people understand that there are points of misunderstanding and points of interest.Obama is behaving himself like a frigid lady accusing her husband. This is not serious for international relations.
The odd thing with Syria is we didn't learn from Iraq and Libya. Libya was a prosperous, well-educated, middle-class nation with tolerance for women, until Warmonger Hillary bombed it into the stone age.
Obama let Hillary run foreign policy as he sat with his thumb up his rear. He needs to give that "peace prize" back after the slaughter in Libya and Syria he Still refuses to do anything about. In fact, we should write the Nobel Committee about a rescinding the peace prize.
To think that warmonger Hillary is running for the Presidency. We don't need another "regime changer" in the Oval Office.
