A new press release from United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI), one of the many Sheldon Adelson-funded lobbying groups trying to kill the Iran nuclear deal, hyped the appointment of former Sen. Joe Lieberman to an unspecified “leadership role” in the group. Lieberman has recently been appointed to key roles at a number of these lobbies.
Buried within the release, however, is a much more interesting story. UANI’s President Gary Samore, who has served in that role since September 2013, has announced his resignation from the post, because while UANI is lobbying against the deal, Samore supports it.
Samore argued that he believes UANI should transition into a role supportive of the deal and monitoring implementation of it. That was clearly a no-go position for anything Adelson-linked, however, as the casino billionaire has been trying to foment war with Iran for years.
There are deep pockets behind the anti-Iran lobby right now, but Samore’s resignation underscores what could be a growing struggle for them. As the deal becomes more and more a matter of fact, there will be fewer people, apart from Joe Lieberman of course, willing to tilt at this particular windmill.
I hope it is a good sign.
Sickening to see that jerk and knowing that he gets to dictate US foreign policy.
America was asleep and stil is except obama will before his term ends put them where theyshould be
This guy is a mouse with deep pockets.
Deep pockets always rule america bub.
If this deal makes it, AIPAC and the "special relationship" with the Jewish State, make that the Apartheid Jewish State, has been badly wounded, mortally so let us hope
The question then will be whether the U.S., freed from the Middle East tar baby, will turn to a path of peace OR turn the freed up firepower on China and Russia.
I am not optimistic.
The best hope for the path of peace is the Ron Paul libertarians.
Schumer, Lieberman, Adelson, and AIPAC – the anti-Iran movement is taking on a very distinctive character; a character that – if the campaign succeeds and winds up in war or economic shunning of America by the World – will be very destructive for Israel – the sole object of this coalition's affection.
Hoisted on their own petard.
The first rat jumping ship is good news.
The opposition makes no sense. It is a power play, pure power. If they start to jump ship it isn't intellectual honesty at work, it is an admiission that those closest to power know they are losing.
That is great news.
Don't underestimate the resources or determination of the Zionist lobby or its power over the US Congress. The destruction of the Iranian regime is an existential question for the Zionists. Israel will never be secure as a Jewish-only state as long as a strong regime in Iran continues to back the Palestinian resistance. While Congress is in recess the Zionist lobby is working hard to line up the Democratic votes they need for cloture and override. They have a lot of money and tools at their disposal. This fight is far from over.
Israel is already "secure." It has overwhelming power. It could not be safer.
What Israel wants is further expansion. It wants that with the least possible opposition. Hence, the plan to have the US take out all potential centers of opposition.
The Saudis would be next. After that? It will be someone. It was Iraq, then Syria, now Iran, next Saudis, then someone else. It really isn't about Iran, just about the list.
Israel is a settler-colony. The Zionist state will neither be safe nor secure as long as the indigenous Palestinian people continue to resist their displacement. Iran is a threat to the Jews-only Zionist state because Iran supports the Palestinian resistance.
White South Africa had the most powerful military in Sub-Saharan Africa. But in the end, apartheid fell. The only settler colonies that have been successful are the ones where millions of settlers overwhelmed small native populations, like the USA, Canada and Australia. Despite a century of immigration, Jews are barely 50% of the population controlled by Israel (1947 Israel plus Jerusalem, West Bank and Gaza). That is without counting several million Palestinian refugees residing in other countries.
I agree that Israel is expansionist and, thanks to US and European support, they have a strong military. But the Zionist dominion over Palestine will never be secure as long as the Palestinian people continue to resist.
Those rats always swim back where the money is located.
Blofeld is showing off some nice hair these days!
You have to wonder why old guys like this don't blow half their fortunes on something rational like searching for the fountain of youth.
If Iran wanted nuclear weapons (and they don't) the 5+1 agreement absolutely makes that impossible. Frankly, I thought the agreement was an incredible surrender of national sovereignty by the Iranian negotiators. Samore's defection from Adelson's team is proof that the opposition to the agreement is based on a desire to get the US into a war with Iran and has nothing to do with nukes.
