Fresh off the revelation that Saudi King Salman is backing out of plans to attend a Camp David summit, the leaders of several other GCC nations are also revealed to be absent.
None of the leaders of the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Oman will be attending the summit either, though White House officials say they never actually said they were planning to in the first place.
Experts see this as a sign of a growing split between the US and the Arab states, primarily over the P5+1 nuclear talks with Iran, though the White House insisted the Saudis have had only positive things to say about them.
Not every GCC nation will be absent, however. Kuwait’s emir is already in the DC area and has confirmed attendance at the summit, and Qatar’s emir is also expected to attend.
The thought has crossed my mind, when I get down to the dregs of the cask, that given the nefarious stated designs by the neocons and assorted other warmongers and Iran-haters – you know, the Israel-Firsters generally, what if this Iranian P5+1 thing was all a gambit to get the Saudis and their ankle-biters to actually attack Iran when it started to look like there might be an agreement imminent with Iran. Might explain why the Saudis were so pissed when the Pakistanis said they were not interested in getting involved and why the Saudis are so hellbent on removing any Iranian friends to their south.
But, I've been known to lean to the bizarre when in my cups.
"A growing split between the US and the Arab states". It's about time we rid ourselves of that scheming , cowardly crowd of lay-about's. Don't let the door hit you in the a** on your way out, King Ibn (whatever).
