Ukraine’s military abandonment of Debaltseve continues to pay dividends for the ceasefire, which is again holding today, and prisoner exchanges today add to hope that the deal will hold.
Not that there hasn’t been any fighting in the past couple of days, as some shelling has been reported against the rebel capital of Donetsk, though its minor compared to the fighting before the ceasefire began a week ago.
The town of Novoazovsk seems to be another potential site of tensions, as Ukraine is accusing the rebels of building up on the outskirts, and are themselves building up at the town.
Novoazovsk would be the route through which fighting would take place in Mariupol, a major port city that would likely be the rebels’ next target if the ceasefire falls.
It’s only natural, as both sides continue to redeploy troops during the ceasefire, that they are both positioning their forces to maximum advantage for reacting if the ceasefire falls. Still, the momentum seems to be with the ceasefire holding for now.
Problem is, war is a time for killing, which fascists love above all things as nothing makes them feel more superior then to kill those they consider so inferior as to be not fit to live.
Nah, Ukrainians are civilised and nice people.
And soon, they are going to be part of EU anyway.
What I find interesting is that Mr Ditz keeps playing down any signs of Putin breaking his word. Given his openly pro-Putin stance, that suggests that Putin's American supporters are scared of the ceasefire breaking down. That in its turn suggests that they beleive that Putin is losing the fight.
Idiot — if the "ceasefire" breaks down, the Ukrainian army will perform as well as they did at Debaltseve. If the Ukrainian state is winning, why was Poroshenko calling for EU monitors? Putin has been winning with one hand tied behind his back. The ceasefire accord was The European Union's way of saying "screw you, America."
Exactly. The U.S. began this conflict, and I am sure Merkel and Hollande kept those infamous words of Victoria Nuland (Kagan) in mind: "F— the EU!" during their negotiations at Minsk.
One feels for the poor Ukrainian conscripts who were dragooned and sent to the meat grinder of Novorossiya; they had no choice in the matter. The militias achieved a decisive victory when they closed the Debaltseve salient and trapped nearly 8,000 UAF (and foreign mercenaries).
And it gets even worse for the Empire: the militias have openly mocked the U.S., begging them to give weapons to Ukraine so that they can capture them and augment their arsenal!
Could it be that imperial overreach and arrogance are finally paying backfiring dividends?
The ceasefire breaks down means more dead Ukrainian soldiers, more destroyed tanks and APCs, more POWs for the Eastern Ukrainians to parade around in the streets of towns they have shelled so old ladies can spit on them, more US weapons falling into the hands of the rebels left by retreating Ukrainian soldiers.
It appears given the number of young Ukrainian men of fighting age who are running to neighboring countries (including to Russia proper) to avoid mandatory conscription suggests
that many are not willing to fight and die for the Ukrainian fascists. Also the fact that Ukraine is trying to draft men between the ages of 40 and 60 shows how desperate they truly are, and no doubt are filling these gaping holes with foreign mercenaries and W. Ukrainian redneck fascist punks who are more criminal than patriot.
But please don't let all that stop you from spinning your fantasies.
Peace keepers — Far better then war killers
Empire USA, first it spends $10 billion to overthrow the Ukraine democracy, then it uses sniper killers to waste a hundred protesters, then it uses a Ukraine fighter-jet to shoot down an airliner killing all three hundred on board and finally it sends the Ukraine Army over to East Ukraine with an intent to kill or imprison over a hundred thousand freedom fighters.
Which begs the question, why did not Putin send in a peace keeping force to terminate the fascist coup, so that democratic elections could reestablish a democratic government?
To — Michael Kenny
In this US funded fascist coup d’état, which word of his has Putin broke? Has he broken his word to not overthrow a democracy or invade helpless nations?
Surely paid confusion is how you come across, as being opposed to the war, that in no way indicates that one is “scared” of the war or blind to the reality that Putin is on the winning team.
Who called for the ceasefire Michael Kenny? Those troops were surrounded. During the negotiation process the Ukrainian government refused to admit they had troops there!!!! The freedom fighters agreed to the ceasefire but stated those troops that did not exist (according to the Ukrainian government) would be attacked. The only reason there was a ceasefire was to save those Troops! Kenny, your side is clearly losing lol.
