The Obama Administration finally released the redacted 540-page summary of a still secret 6,000+ page report on CIA torture in the wake of 9/11. The story it tells is not a pretty one.
Brutal methods that led to the deaths of captives were the order of the day, and the CIA lied to both the American public and then-President George W. Bush about what they did and what it got them.
What did it get them? Not much as it turns out. The old adages about torture not being a reliable way to gather information and captives telling torturers what they think they want to hear to get them to stop proved true once again, getting them very little usable intelligence.
To make matters worse, the CIA was so bound and determined that torture was the end-all, be-all way to get intelligence that they actually ignored proven information that they got before the torture started simply because they considered pre-torture intelligence “throwaway” information.
And while the CIA and the Obama Administration were trying to hold back the releases, claiming they were a threat to national security, no violence was reported in the wake of the release.
There was a lot of political intrigue surrounding the release too, though similarly there seems to be no real chance of any reform coming as a result of the release, and the CIA is still outraged that the torture has become a matter of public record.

Until they start prosecuting those that said it was LAWFUL, like Bybee and Yoo this has NO MEANING!
This is what spy agencies do, lie, toturs, kill and do little to protect against terrorism, that is to say if they don't create, support and make sure that their creations dose what they are created for, like the moderate Islamic "rebels" that have become ISIS. Cia is the second government within the U.S. government among other 21 governments.
The ethical part of the matter is that no on is going to be prosecuted for the crime while USG dictating for the world to see the US social political and r onto mic system is the only example for the world to learn about democracy.
By Obamas manipulative politics the entire world have learned that USG and its constituted democracy is a fake which is the main reason for USG being at war, war is not a necessary aspect for peace unless the mechanism of a system is based on a militarism system and someone like Obama manipulating more of a fake democracy' which U.S. the reason for democracy not functioning, if it did Obama should have prosecuted Dick Cheney, Rumsfeld, Bush and their gang of neo fascis. By being a manipulative politician is when you lose your honesty and that's when you follow the same militaristic agendas as your predecessors. 65% of the American people believed in Iraq war because they were lied to by Bush neo fascism regime and his cia, the entire social political system controlled by the U.S. militarism regime just followed with more lies which was the happiest day for AIPAC, John Negroponte, Paul wolfowitz, the saudis and rest of the CCG governing families and off course israel.
Torture — Ultimate conclusion of democracy
Democracy is rule by the 51% who conspire to hoard all the wealth. For the more wealth a man has, the more concerned he is about what harm government may do to his wealth and the greater is his motivation to control government.
For Republicans and Democrats comprise the 51% most wealthy and the purpose of torture is to protect their democratic right to hoard all the wealth.
For do you not know that we are all born with the identical IQ of 101, and that capitalism is a level playing field as it separates the ambitious and godly from the lazy criminal elements in society.
If they would lie to you about torture, what exactly would they NOT lie to you about? Why would you trust anything they have to say…about ANYTHING?!
That's the crux of it, isn't it? "They" being CIA lying to Congress seems bad enough, but the Congress people are not naive, they are not without their own informants. So therefore, when they neglected (repeatedly) to hold hearings every time some scandal in an illegal war broke out, then our elected representatives were actually those who were lying, by passing the lies and false security on to us.
The problem is that someone who would lie about something so serious on Monday, might well lie to you about things more vital to your own welfare on Tuesday. What does it take to say – "Look, you guys are too untrustworthy for me to give you one ounce of credence, so off you go – to jail or oblivion."
Pure torture — Lower half of society robbed of all wealth
The real issue being, what is the root cause of torture, why is it that not once has mainstream media has always kept a blackout on this aspect of the problem?. But surely, the corporate rich keep society locked in a fake morality, the illusion that education is a god-like quality that entitles you to be in in the upper half of society, to be among the voting majority that hoards all the wealth.
So, as democracy is the absolute worst form of government, it being rule by the 51% most greedy and wealthy, how in the world are we ever to have peace and equality?
But surely global wars, global warming and all the banks demanding even greater austerity, surely in our lifetime shall we reach the ultimate conclusion of it, whereupon, all things will turn toward the good.
When Naz!s, 3rd world dictators, Soviets, terrorists, juntas, criminals, psychopaths, lowlives, degenerates, warlords, police do torture, it's BAD.
But when AmeriKans and her allies do it, suddenly there is a justification for it, so it's GOOD?
We should have learned from someplace less pathological than Israel about how to treat the Arabs.
Well said, with one exception. Saying the CIA lied to the American people and Bush2 is in Bush2's defence. That isn't established yet and will only be when they're all put on trial for murder in the Hague.
The CIA might have lied to bush about torture's effectiveness but he still knew. Whether or not torture worked seems to be the only argument against its usage instead of torture being morally f**king wrong regardless of its effectiveness.
Torture report about practices "in the wake of 9/11" really should make us laugh. As though the CIA never murdered or tortured before. As though they lost their virginity on 9/11. You don't have that kind of an organization without a lot of practice – what did Kennedy call them ? "Murder Inc.?"
So a few buildings coming down under suspicious circumstances gave them carte blanche? That's some kind of sweet deal. Better than a prewar with good plaster.
