NATO Chief Jens Stollenberg today tried to downplay concerns over the new ISIS war spilling over into neighboring Turkey, insisting that as a NATO member the nation was obliged to defend it from any potential spillover.
Stollenberg made much of the deployment of anti-aircraft missiles along the border with Syria, which of course is totally irrelevant to the war with ISIS, since ISIS does not have warplanes, and presumably the Patriot missiles in southern Turkey aren’t there to prevent US warplanes engaged in airstrikes against ISIS from straying across the border.
Turkish Defense Minister Ismet Yilmaz insisted that NATO has already drawn up a defensive plan at his government’s request, and that he is confident that the plan will prevent any attacks by ISIS.
It seems unlikely ISIS will actually attack Turkey at this point, however, with the country still a primary avenue for fighters and weapons smuggled into Syria. This could change if Turkey, as threatened, does launch a ground offensive against ISIS, but at that point it’s hard to imagine NATO on the hook for “defensive” aid to Turkey, if they indeed start the war.
Deitz: Jens Stol"T"enberg…google it. You're making it very difficult to put much stock in what you report if you can't get the simple stuff correct.
stollenberg obliging the unwilling. happy days for nato
Obviously the groundwork is being laid for a war by Turkey, as part of NATO, on Syria. Turkey, along with the US and Saudi Arabia and Israel, has been trying to get that war started for three years. It's all part of the plan to degrade Syria as a military threat to Israel in an Iran war, and enabling Israel to attack Hizballah in the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon via Syria territory without having to worry about the Syrian military – also all for the purpose of degrading Hizballah in order to enable Israel to start an Iran war (and then of course hand it over to the US). It has been a roundabout course to get that done since Assad has been careful not to provoke anyone and Russia has been careful about vetoing UN resolutions that would authorize the US/NATO to attack Syria. Putin also disarmed Obama last year over the chemical weapons ploy (which is one reason Russia is under attack now over the Ukraine.)
Almost no one seems to understand the goal here – another ten- or 20-year long war against Iran to insure profits for the military industrial complex now that Afghanistan is winding down. It's ALL about the MONEY (which also includes OIL and HEGEMONY – all of which is denominated in MONEY.)
