After facing intense pressure at a meeting with US senators, Bulgaria has announced that it is halting work on the South Stream Pipeline, a key natural gas pipeline connecting Bulgaria to Russia along the Black Sea.
Whether the halt is temporary or not remains to be seen, but Bulgarian officials have complained they are being targeted by the US and the European Commission as a way of hurting Russia.
The South Stream Pipeline is being built with Gazprom exports in mind, and an eye on giving the world’s largest natural gas producer an alternative route into Europe without having to go through Ukraine.
The plan is not brand new, but has taken on new importance with the ongoing Ukraine gas negotiations, and the possibility that Gazprom might have to cut off exports into Ukraine, and as a result struggle to ship into Europe.
It shows that Europ can not leave countries of ex soviet block to command european politics. They look for revenge against Russia,They do not understand that it is dangerous and racist to take a such position because historicly the people who took bad decisions where not always russian.Staline is georgean, soldiers who killed the Czar where from baltic republics, many NKVD people were Jews. Each nation has is bad people. Here we see a racist trends of the west orchestrated helped by the western medias.
US to Bulgaria: Nice country you got there, shame if something … bad … was to happen to it, if ya know what I mean.
The pipeline will probably be built once the dust has settled in Ukraine. With Putin having agreed to seal Russia's border with Ukraine in return for a ceasefire, thereby leaving the rebels high and dry, that probably won't be that long. As can be seen from the BBC report linked to, the problem with the Commission is a possible breach of the public procurement rules. Member States often cry foul when the Commission enforces the rules against them, so I wouldn't set much store by the claims that it has something to do with Russia. In addition, the procedure for failure to fulfil obligations is lengthy, often taking several years and the Commission has no power to block the project during its investigation. As with everything else in the EU, the Member States (including Bulgaria) have kept all the important cards in their own hands (legends in the American cloudcuckooland notwithstanding)!
This US proxy warfare against Russia is getting scary here in Europe.
Too bad. Bulgaria is a desperately poor country. It could have used the investment. But when you become one of Washington's stooges, you do what you are told.
who the hell made these US neocon senators Secretary of state
