Officially, everyone seems to be settled on the idea that the Russian annexation of Crimea is not some redux of the WW2 blitzkrieg or of Russia reforming the entire Warsaw Pact in a weekend. Still, that doesn’t mean officials aren’t using it as an excuse for a laundry list of military policy goals.
President Obama, who made a big point of mocking Russia and downplaying the Crimea situation as a sign of Putin’s weakness, is now pushing NATO to commit to a military build-up in Eastern Europe.
Not that there’s a war coming, mind you. President Obama has ruled out attacking Crimea several times, but says a build-up would be a great way to “reassure” Poland and the Baltic states that, as NATO members, the alliance is willing to defend them from a Russian invasion that no one thinks is coming anyhow.
It also fits in neatly with Obama’s other major goal: to parlay the Russia situation into a dramatic increase in military spending across Europe, and by extension an increase in US military exports to the continent.
Obama simply going after a bigger war, if that happens or not, time well tell, but for the moment he wants for NATO to expend closer into Russian border, he wants for Syria to be annexed by Turkish supported terrorist in north and Saudis mercenaries and all other form of barbarians in other part of Syria, he wants for Russia to be isolated militarily from all directions. This is the Neo doctrine presented by Neo cons-democrats and Anglo-American corporation in cooperation with EU governing Neo liberalism ideologue. He and his European partners challenging Russia to act where he and NATO would become the dominator in waging wars with rest of the world. So, the saying that: Second World War is not finish yet becomes the question in : imperialism-empire or before him wanted to dominated the world economy and energy, hence, the new idea in dominating the world economy, according to the Neo liberals is that: everyone whom are the "enemy of my enemy is my friend" can join the Neo liberalism political party by contributing one way or other, again, Ukraine the Neo fascism and in Syria is the Saudis terrorism engagement are obvious politics by USG and NATO-EU governing body, in one hand the Turkish Government supporting Saudis and their barbarians, and for USG to station yet another missiles system in Turkey and Jordan is another, both of these missile defense system are stationed while the engagement of the Saudis and Turkish government in Syrian war expended to next level. Ukraine and Syria is about Russia, Hitler chose a military path direct into Russia, he was wrong, the USG and EU governing body are not doing the same mistake, they are on the same path but cautiously taking step by step shaping the outcome.
Yep, weapons, war, and long term indebtedness to pay for them seem to be just about all the US has produced in the 21st century…
Way to go Obama, continue to pour salt on that open wound.
Is Obama having a breakdown? Recently he's made some really stupid and dangerous statements – that on the surface are so out of character from the person he's had us believe he was since the beginning. It's like he's a different person altogether. Has he changed to make us believe he's evolved into a neocon…or are his true colors coming through, finally.
Of course, this is all part-and-parcel with hiring (electing) someone with a minimal track record to examine. Sometimes it's good to get a fresh face in charge…sometimes it's not. We definitely lost the toss on this one.
Obama must be bending to the war party, defensive contractors, or to shake of some image of being un-American. He is a weak president, and weak men can be erratic under stress or pulled by both the left and the right. The loss of life because of the Iraq invasion was a nightmare, but granted the Ukraine can be a million times worse, if Obama pushes long enough, creatively enough, and a quantum past the threshold that's kept the devil in the box for 69 years.
I'm banking on the Europeans coming to their senses well before it reaches that state of disaster. Bush may have felt comfortable running off unilaterally and invading Iraq but I don't think Obama has the stones to act similarly…I hope.
Nah, this is the same ol' Obama as always. There was nothing but the most tepid and paper-thin critique of the Iraq war (which he did his best to extend) as conducted improperly when running for president when the country was overwhelmingly against same. But Obama's always been a chickenhawk, eager to bomb & sanction. I'm proud of having voted for Nader 4x beginning in '96 & then the Green ticket in '12. Screw these people.
Yes, I believe he is completely owned by the military brass. He came into office without any experience, and with only vague plans related to social issues.
Imagine the new president without any firm ideas on foreign policy, sitting at the conference table surrounded by experienced officers decked out in stripes, fancy costumes, colorful pretty ribbons on their chests, and try to say they need to do everything differently. Not going to happen.
It has been much easier to just listen to what they want, say "OK", and give speeches parroting whatever military rationale he hears from them.
Yep, O, just keep poking the bear, dumba$$.
What a shameful puppet. It seems like he just doesn't care anymore and is only looking forward to his 6 figure speaking engagements post-presidency.
The problem, as always, is Israel. If NATO fails to fulfil its treaty obligations to NATO members, no one will believe that it will defend Israel either.. Equally, if it appears to cut and run when confronted by a nuclear power, that message will also undermins the US commitment to Israel. I doubt if anybody in the US gives a damn about Europe, but in an election year, everybody in politics has to give a damn about Israel!
More Military in eastern Europe is not necessary.Because the problem will solve itself.
The people on Crimea become double amount of wages and pensions.Ukrainians receive the savings packages from the International Monetary Found. How long will it last until the Ukrainians in the eastern part decide to go to Russia?
People there will remember the time and the borders 100 years ago before World War . So the Ukraine will lose more from their territory without military actions from the Russian Army.Perhaps the Russians have to take care about the 8 Million Russians.Because the Super-Democrat and Western puppet Timoshenko wants to kill them.
There is not much protest from the leaders of the western world and their "values".
It is like with the former Dictator from Nicaragua Somoza. As there came complains about human right abuses the answer from US officials was:" Okay,he is a son of a b****. But he is OUR son of a b****.
It is terrible to watch how the western "Elites" and medias are warmongering (Crimea,Syria,Iran etc.) while the average citizen doesn't want to follow their leaders.Cui bono? Who is profiting from this ?
Barry is no position to want anything except an escape hatch. But Putin already gave him one when he shot down the missiles launched from the US base in Spain towards Damascus. THAT was the crackhead's wake up call.
Apparently he hit the snooze button once too often.
Since Bush the First assured Russia there would be no move of NATO eastward, each US president on turn has reneged on that commitment. Each one of them is provocative.
Obama's sending more troops eastward is the latest provocation.
