Deputy National Security Advisor Tony Blinken insisted today that Russia will pay costs that “would increase significantly” if next week’s Crimean referendum ends with secession from the Ukraine and joining the Russian Federation.
Blinken went on to say that the US would never accept the results of the referendum and that “most of the world” will not consider Crimea independent either.
President Obama insists that referendums on secession are illegal unless they are endorsed by the democratically elected government of their ruling power they are trying to break off from. Since Ukraine’s newly installed government wasn’t elected in the first place, it isn’t clear how their objection precludes the vote.
US officials have threatened major sanctions against Russia if they annex Crimea, though since the US has only trivial business ties with Russia to start with, the impact is expected to be very limited.
Can't believe anything the USG says.
This puts to sleep any notion that the US values democracy and rule by the people (a Republic). Votes are good only if they go the way the Empire dictates.

2) How about the very American state of West Virginia? Virginia never recognized its secession, which is why it is not known as East Virginia.
3) How about the 'secession' of the American colonies from Great Britain itself? Hardly a legal act from the point of British law. Had the rebellion failed, all of the founding fathers would have been hanged for treason against the crown.
And what gives America the right to decide what Crimea does anyways?

The idiotic remark of Blinken shows what double standards he and the whole government of the "land of the not so free and democratic" has nowadays… Imagine the inhabitants of Southern Syria making a referendum to secede from Syria and join Israel together with the Golan Heights… I am sure this nutcase would say it is legal and welcome as it is the democratic green choice of the people…. If it was not tragic that those who set themselves as an example to the world would say idiotic things it would be for laughs.

If I subscribed to the idea that Putin, Obama, and Assad colluded to rob the Jewish Lobby of it's already impotent argument for a USg war on Syria … I'd have to ask if Obama's current 'argument' on Crimea aint some pure theater. The damage is all ready done, the people of Ukraine paying the price, so what els is out there for USG and EU governing body to do, sanctioning Russia or Ukraine! I don't recall the Serbian government agreeing to the referendum that was held in Kosovo even though Kosovo was a province of Serbia according to earlier statements by the USG. Through its behaviour over the Ukraine the USG has demonstrated yet again just how anti-democratic and hypocritical it is and the EU and many of its leading members have also demonstrated they are just the USG's poodles and lickspittles.
How outrageous for the citizens of Crimea to vote in a referendum (democratically) to choose what and where their future is to be. This type of insanity simply cannot be allowed to happen. The official government in Kiev, not elected as it is, is nevertheless the legitimate government of Ukraine and has to be obeyed. If not obeyed, the rest of the world (the US and its other partners in crime and mass murder) will be very angry, not to mention the thugs and Neo Nazis who are now in power and are were elected at the point of a gun in a western orchestrated illegal takeover of the democratically elected government.
We simply cannot allow Crimea to vote freely on rejoining their ancestral country. We cannot allow democracy to flourish. Its bad for the banking business. Besides, the USA, a country thousands of miles away is the final arbiter of what is allowed in the world. Get used to it Russia and kneel down in their presence!

I would guess is that what Obama wants is for Russia to put Crimea's joining the Russian Frderation on hold. Don't say no but don't say yes either. It would then become a sort of second Kosovo, with Russian military forces driving out the private mercenary army currently occupying it. That could easily be justified by the need to "stabilise" the territory. Of course would then probably pop up in Kharkov and Donetsk posing as "pro-Russian" demonstrators!

US Will Never Accept Crimean Referendum Results
Already looking like a Titanic-sized a**hole, Obama ought to look for a safe way to climb down from his idiotic perch and save face before he looks like an even BIGGER A**HOLE, that might not even be possible.
Obama is no Fool and he has been having these long and meaningful with Putin probably because there is no Zarkozy to mediate and placate Putin. After the Georgin crisis Putin was so livid he threatened to hang Saakashvilli up by his kiwi fruits.
Obama is probably calling Oligarch Yatsenyuk to Washington for a face saving exercise, to offer him and his $$$ safe transit or to whisper into his shell like that there is absolute no value in antagonizing an "immovable object like" Putin.
Perhaps Putin is throwing the warmongers some scraps to prevent the wrecking, pillaging and murders we know Yatsenyuk and the Nuland supporters are well capable of.

The international community and world refuses to discuss how Hawaii has been occupied for 120+ years by the US even though they opposed it 100 percent as per their people's vote. They refuse to discuss the fact that Hawaii was a country internationally recognized with treaties with England, France, US, Russia, Germany, Japan, ETC… but was illegally taken and remains occupied to this day, having been "annexed" by Joint Resolution, which is not binding outside of the country of the US and cannot legally annex a country thousands of miles outside of its boundaries. Remarks made by the US can hold no weight so long as they continue to hold onto Hawaii and hide this fact from the world.
