The “Kerry Plan” on a framework for Israel-Palestinian peace continues to morph in some surprising directions, with the latest idea from the US reportedly to compensate Palestine for annexed West Bank settlements with parts of the Negev.
The Negev, the mostly desert southern half of Israel, includes a lot of empty territory, and a lot of the development in the region has centered around it being a dumping ground for minorities in Israel.
The plan is to offer part of the Negev, presumably bordering the Gaza Strip, and let the Palestinians use that as a place for Palestinian refugees abroad to return in return for giving up the claim of a right of return to Israel.
The talks are said to focus considerably on compensation for refugees on both sides, with the Palestinians expelled from Israel during the Nakba as well as Jews expelled from other nations during the same period receiving some sort of compensation for their lost land.
The other major issue of discussion recently is the military future of Palestine, with President Mahmoud Abbas saying he has proposed an “indefinite” NATO military presence in the nation as a replacement for having a Palestinian Army of their own.
NATO troops in Palestine?? That is insane.
I can see that happening, the Electronic Intifada called for that years ago.
Would other nations, knowing Israeli habits, contribute to an international force that could be bombed or abused and then explained away by Amerikan politi-whores, like the USS Liberty?
You can't trust Israel, if they do not fear any repercussions from breaking the law, what's to stop them from attacking NATO troops? A few Americans sprinkled throughout? Ha.
NATO troops in Palestine?? That is insane.
To protect them against Israel!
Sorry, Jason, Jews were not "expelled" from other nations (by which you mean, I presume, Arab countries in the 50s). They were encouraged/uprooted by the govt. of Ben-Gurion.
"compensate the Jews for what they lost in other Arab lands….." What a sad and sick joke this is. First, the Jews in other Arab lands were never kicked out. They left of their own accord (look up operation Flying Carpet in Iraq where they bombed sinagogs and blamed it on the Iraqi's) when Israel was created and they were pressured by the new nation to leave the land of their birth and migrate to Israel which was illegally created on the ruins of Palestine. However, once again, the Palestinians are made to pay for other peoples transgression: First with the crimes against the Jews by Europeans, and now by compensating them for "crimes" by other nations where the Palestinians had nothing to do with either set of so called transgressions against the Jews. When is this travesty going to stop?
Now Israeli parliament member Motti Yogev, also from the Jewish Home Party, has attacked Kerry, this time as bigotted against Jews. He said, “Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is acting under Kerry’s obsessive pressure, which may have anti-Semitic undertones . . . Kerry is not here to reach a compromise. He wants to decrease the Jewish presence in the Land of Israel and create a Palestinian state.”
Yogev himself lives in an Israeli squatter settlement on Palestinian territory.
It is one of the less appealing characteristics of Zionist bullies that they engage blithely in stealing Palestinian land and resources in complete disregard for international law and then use the fig leaf of charges of “anti-Semitism” to deflect any criticism of their actions. (The Jewish Home Party, though religious, characterizes itself as “Zionist.”) This distasteful ploy has increasingly jumped the shark as simple human rights law has become “anti-Semitic” insofar as the current rightwing Zionist enterprise violates international norms, and yet its proponents maintain that criticizing Israel or Zionism is not allowed. All this is not to mention that the United States gives (underline gives) Israel billions of dollars a year in its taxpayers’ money, as well as trade privileges worth further billions. It doesn’t do that for any other country at that level. If Kerry is anti-Semitic now, what would he have to do, make it trillions?
Housing Minister Uriel Ariel of the same party led a protest of some 2000 on Thursday, with rabbis praying that Netanyahu will stand firm against Kerry.
Palestinians fear that the talks are a mere smoke screen, allowing Israeli aggressive expansionism while falsely reassuring the outside world that a peace process is in train.

OK, so someone steals your nice home in the nice village and the olive groves you had tended for generations, and in return the offer a worthless bit of desert that no one has wanted to live on in 3000 years of civilization in the area. Yeah, like that's a good deal. Somewhere there's the spirit of a 19th century American Indian shaking his head thinking he's seen this before.
thank you Pinetar, few know that the USA killed 87% of the American indigenous indians. only a few that excaped to Canada survived.
now this: the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian West Bank is illegal, and it is opposed to trade with settler commercial enterprises based there. The Sodastream factory in set in a 40,000-strong Israeli squatter settlement designed to cut East Jerusalem off from the West Bank and make a Palestinian state impossible. Israel squatters divert most of the West Bank’s water and other resources to themselves, leaving Palestinians impoverished.
In the end, Ms. Johansson had to choose between the two, and she gave up her association with Oxfam.
The Israeli Occupation institutions in the Palestinian West Bank are increasingly being boycotted, especially in Europe (Oxfam is based in Britain). Although it is clearly illegal for an Occupying Power to move its population into occupied territory (Geneva Convention of 1949), far right wing Israeli governments have flooded this Palestinian territory with hundreds of thousands of illegal squatters, who have usurped Palestinian property, confined Palestinians to Bantustans, and imposed onerous checkpoints on them. The Jewish supremacist squatter settlements are Jewish-only and no Palestinian can live in them. The militant squatters are often heavily armed and are increasingly attacking Palestinians and their mosques and other institutions, as well as waging economic warfare on them by cutting down their olive trees.
The European Union has decided to use its economic clout to push back against the clear Israeli determination to annex the whole West Bank while keeping its indigenous Palestinian population stateless and without the rights of citizenship.
The European Union has insisted that Israeli institutions and companies based in the Palestinian West Bank be excluded from any Israeli participation in a program of the European Union. (The EU treats Israel like a member, offering it many perquisites, opportunities for technology interchange, and access to EU markets; Brussels is saying, however, that none of that largesse can go to Israelis in the Occupied Weat Bank.)
Lawrence of Arabia movie has a very good part on the rebels crossing this land. Only in this disaster of humanity which is the treatment of the Palestinians would anyone propose giving the desert for land which has been turned into living farms. What a disgrace to even try this
Crazy, won't happen ……..
But, but…It's the Kerry Plan!!! This is what you get when the plan designer doesn't want to impose any requirements that would cause the Israelis to have to pay for anything – and not lose face (in their own eyes, of course.) [Sarcasm alert!!! – because some won't get it] –> Besides, it's only the Palestinians…everyone pisses on the Palestinians, don't they?
Give them their own land back–THANK YOU AMERIKA..
Given its record of ignoring the UN which granted a specific resolution on its own as well as Palestine's right to become a "state" all one can say after reading the following is GOOD LUCK WITH THAT.
Israel ignores resolutions which are not binding on it
The operative resolution, is
United Nations Security Council resolution 446, adopted on 22 March 1979, concerned the issue of Israeli settlements in the "Arab territories occupied by Israel since 1967, including Jerusalem". This refers to the Palestinian territories of the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip as well as theSyrian Golan Heights. In the Resolution, the Security Council determined: "that the policy and practices of Israel in establishing settlements in the Palestinian and other Arab territories occupied since 1967 have no legal validity and constitute a serious obstruction to achieving a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in the Middle East"
Of primary importance to the Palestinians is to have secure, defensible borders!!!
The Negev is empty because the zionists, who presently control it, don't want it. It's the biblical 'wilderness' that won't be made to bloom, by anybody.
So, our plan is to trade some of their land for a dump ?
I would like to know just how deep Israeli control of America goes, and why nothing ever gets done in Kongress unless it is an AIPAC inspired document.
Do they have dirt on the politicians they can't bribe? Which ones have their families or themselves threatened unless they cooperate? How many are closeted homosexuals pretending to be family men?
Are their nuclear subs (Dolphins supplied by Germany) cruising around our coasts?
And just how badly is our military compromised? If something happens will the military respond accordingly to the true perpetrators or will they blame a convenient, long standing nemesis?
With Iran as a viable partner, there is no need for Israel to be so heavily armed and dangerous. Their regional enemies have been burned and destroyed and are in no condition to fight them.
Palestina needs to be one state solution now, the Israelis had their chance for a reasonable two-state but preferred to delay it for years with their endless BS and two-step. Now it's too late for two states.
Now to FORCE Talmudia to accept the Palestinians as EQUAL in ONE all encompassing state is the best and worst punishment I can think of for the Israeli racists.
Sharon after all did say "WE, THE JEWISH PEOPLE, CONTROL AMERICA. AND THE AMERICANS KNOW IT."
To date Putin is the only leader it seems with balls big enough to throw the Jewish Oligarchy out of his country and for his punishment they are furiously white anting Russia. I think US finally have a chance to rid themselves of this cancerous growth if we stop using the ONE US veto to stymie the workings of the Int. Community and bring about Sanctions akin to those that brought about the end of White South Africa rule.
USA continues to block the internationally agreed upon and legally required settlement:
ISRAEL MUST IMMEDIATELY, RIGHT NOW, WITHDRAW FROM AND STOP BLOCKADING GAZA, WEST BANK, EAST JERUSALEM. PERIOD.
The whole world – every authoritative body, including the International Court of Justice, agrees – and the USA is blocking it.
There is no controversy over what should be done. There are no questions.
The USA is simply blocking the international moral and legal consensus.
