With the first of Western attacks against Syria just days away, US and other officials from nations involved in the planned attack say the strike is entirely about “punishing” Syria for being alleged to have used chemical weapons.
“The options that we are considering are not about regime change,” noted White House spokesman Jay Carney, suggesting the administration views lobbing missiles at Syria as an end unto itself.
Officials say that the strikes will be centered on the idea of showing “that there is a price,” and to “show the world that we did something” after repeated US threats to intervene militarily.
It is bizarre that the US is insisting suddenly, on the eve of war, that it is not about regime change, after two solid years of demanding Assad’s unconditional ouster. At the same time, it is ridiculous to insist that the US suddenly launching a war against Syria’s government won’t have any effect on the ongoing civil war, though officials are at this point desperately trying to keep the two ideas separate, likely because the current war is already such a complicated mess.
Western "democracy" is "punishing" Syrian government for few reasons: 1- Syrian people fighting terrorists that are send to Syrian by the Saudis, by the Turkish government, by the UAE and the west.
2- for the west being protective of zionism, Saudis, Turkish and UAE being against democracy, not a perfect democracy that exist in Syria but one that works and been working for Syrian people.
3-the western "democracy" or "social democrats" or what is known to be the "core of the Neo Liberals" with a manipulative politics saving money and power for the rich, militarizing the world and letting corporation do what they want, a fascist entity of the past fascism presented and modernized with few changes here and there.
4-that's not all, they planed a wicked plan when they started the Syrian war benefiting Saudis and UAE, they thought Syria is Libya, they thought they can continue with their lies and wicked idea forever, they never count on the Syrian people's resistance. By know they have learned their lessons in losing, so they want to punish the Syrian people not complying the Saudis dictatorial regime nor western wicked plans for a wicked democracy for entire region.
"Team Obama: The Punisher" edition
West attacks more like preparations for attack on Iran, Syria is a friend of Iran and they are on the right flank of the best attack route into Iran through Turkey and Northern Iraq onto Tehran. Such a route is in fact the ONLY safe route for the US! This is the Main reason for Syria to be attacked!
"Limited" attack may be propaganda to keep Syria from using their strategic weapons early on in their devastation — military asset movements indicate preparations for a major war.
who is america tp 'punish' anyone for violence? Using violence against those we do not like with a false flag is simply..evil, illegal, immoral and will have consequences..
It's most unfortunate that there is no current country that can "punish" the US bully for the myriad terrorist activities it has inflicted on the world over the years.
General Wesly Clark stated flat out that Syria was one of 5 ME countries of 7 that the US/israel terrorist organization will invade. Iran will be the final piece on the chessboard. The dice have been thrown and the banksters, war profiteers, israel, Qatar and Saudia Arabia will be the winners. And the US will impose more austerity cuts in social programs to pay for this insanity.
Sure – just like Libya was about a "no-fly zone" – not "regime change". How did that work out for Gaddafi?
Actually regime change isn't the main goal in Syria. The main goal is to degrade Syria's ability to hit Israel in an Iran war – and to enable Israel to attack Hizballah in Lebanon again for the same purpose.
This makes an Iran war a "cheap war" for Israel since the US will bear the brunt of the fight with Iran and Israel won't have to worry about hundreds of missiles hitting it from Syria and Lebanon as well as Iran. Otherwise Israeli citizens would be sitting in bomb shelters most of every day, hurting the economy and pissing off the electorate which might vote out the Likud fanatics in the next election – something Netanyahu wants to avoid. Taking out Syria and Hizballah first makes an Iran war possible.
This is why we haven't had an Iran war yet – Israel couldn't afford to do it without taking out Syria and Hizballah. Israel tried in 2006 and failed due to bad strategy. The Syria crisis is all about enabling Israel to do what it could not do in 2006.
