Last Friday, a series of explosions tore through a coastal base in the Syrian port city of Latakia, destroying a cache of anti-ship missiles acquired from Russia. No one claimed responsibility at the time.
But US officials are now confirming that the attack was the result of a series of Israeli airstrikes against Latakia, the latest in a series of Israeli attacks against Syrian military targets.
The strike killed between 10 and 20 Syrian soldiers according to various reports from last weekend, and Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon hinted at responsibility, saying that Israel would be blamed for any attack in the Middle East anyhow, but not denying anything.
It’s the fourth confirmed Israeli attack on Syria in the past six months, though Israel hasn’t officially commented on any of them and seems contented to just strike at will and forget about it.

You are right this time, but Israel's offshore drilling rigs which are now producing the natural gas that Israel is relying upon to become economically independent and expand regionally will always remain at risk. This latest attack is one more provocation that could create serious blowback even if now is not the right time to respond.

Even if Israel did it, Assad can't really respond directly. If attacked, Israel can re-attack Syria and destroy all its infrastructure and the regime institutions and than Assad wouldn't be able to escape to his home town Qardaha on An-Nusayriyah Mountains next to the Seashore, his last refuge, to create a new Alawite state on the shores of Syria.
No report whatsoever has talked about Israeli airplanes bombing Latakia.
Latakia being a coastal town, rather hints to an attack by Israeli submarine-launched cruise missiles, which are way harder to detect by AA an AA-missiles than airplanes.

Syrian air defense is old and "stupid" in front of the high sophisticated Israeli weapons. As foreign newspapers claimed Israel planes attacked few months ago an Iranian missiles convoy from Syria to Lebanon. Israel fully achieved mission with out any real effective Syrian reaction.
In 1982 war Israeli air force destroyed 15 ground-to-air Syrian batteries and shot down almost 100 Syrian jets in one day without any damage done to the Israelis.
As far as I remember Israel taught the American the way to do it. They have later used these tactics and technology in 1991 Gulf war and later in the Iraqi/Afghani wars.
The Israelis lost one of their planes, an F-16.

Syria has never withheld info on Zionist aggressions before and certainly not the attack on the hen-house in Damascus, neither has Russia. Both say´s the mercenary attack targeted an ammo-depot and there are lot´s of them in the area. Syrias air-DEFENCES are mobile and are continuously moved around in various parts in different directions ready to be assembled in minutes, not in open air storage with a big label on it…
