Just because an English-language website looks like it belongs to Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian rebel group that is openly endorsed by al-Qaeda, doesn’t mean it actually is.
That’s the lesson Abdella Ahmad Tounisi, an 18-year-old Chicagoan, learned last week, as he was arrested by the FBI after he emailed the phony, FBI-run website offering to help him join the Syrian rebellion.
Tounisi was in court facing charges of “attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization” because Nusra, online the rest of the US-backed rebellion, is listed as a Foreign Terrorist Organization by the State Department.
The charges are sure to spark controversy about the FBI once again entirely manufacturing a “plot” and then arresting the person that came in contact with it. Tounisi was never in touch with any actual foreign terrorist organizations, and his charges were based entirely on emails to a fake website and followup Google searches.
Gotta love the charges these days "attempting to provide material support". I hate to ask what the punishment for such an egregious crime is? Death penalty? Being named an enemy combatant and made to vanish? Ending up in Guantanamo? Ending up in a dark site prison? Being rendered to Syria, wait, Libya?
And they refused to allow the harmless boy to post bail,
talk about a smokescreen.
every "created" "terrorist" brings $$$$ Billions to the ersatz terror industry………………………
FBI. You must be proud of yourself now that you are an evil inspirator, a liar, a fake and and a criminal. Did you guys dress up on 911 as Muslims and did 911? Then let us go to court and argue it out you lying cowards.
Of course, while they are wasting time, manpower and money on fake websites to recruit fake terrorists so they can have a fancy press conference, they completely miss the people who are really building bombs and setting them off and killing people.
And of course, the really nasty thought is that the FBI wanted a nice press conference to take attention off of the fact that they completely missed the real bombers again, and thus dug through their files to see which fake terrorist they could quickly charge and get some good (but fake) PR for the FBI.
I can't find the website he signed up on, but I see Jabhat Al-Nusra has a Facebook page. I wonder if that's an FBI front too. But if it is, doesn't Facebook have something in its Terms of Service against fake Facebook IDs? And if so, isn't the FBI in violation of the Facebook TOS and therefore guilty of fraudulent access to the Facebook website? After all, prosecutions have been threatened against folks who "fraudulently" access social networking sites in violation of TOS.
Given the thousands of arab immigrants in NATO countries who are openly recruited – even by youtube-videos like this
I expect that real fighters in the right age will be hired, trained and paid. Also France is happy to get their jobless rebelling youngsters occupied in their former colony Syria.
In order to control who is fighting, they do check them, because thoose possibly surviing, may want to bring Jihad home to USA France or UK.

“The United States spent millions of dollars to supply Afghan schoolchildren with textbooks filled with violent images and militant Islamic teachings….The primers, which were filled with talk of jihad and featured drawings of guns, bullets, soldiers and mines, have served since then as the Afghan school system’s core curriculum. Even the Taliban used the American-produced books,..”, (Washington Post, 23 March 2002)
“Advertisements, paid for from CIA funds, were placed in newspapers and newsletters around the world offering inducements and motivations to join the [Islamic] Jihad.” (Pervez Hoodbhoy, Peace Research, 1 May 2005)
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton admitted that the USA created Al Qaeda/Jihadis/Mujahedin
And they used them in Yugoslavia (Bosnia+Kosovo); Iraq, Libya, and now Syria.
Sorry – there is even a nice recruiting video from UK at youtube, but I did not find it at the moment.
