Founded in 1961, the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) has gotten bigger and bigger over time, with a focus principally on whatever wars the US happens to be fighting at the time, and the ones they might be fighting soon.
That seems laughably simplistic to the modern Pentagon, because of course the US is fighting across the entire planet, all the time, and near as anyone can tell forever. With that new global theater of operation in mind, Pentagon planners are seeking a massive increase in size for the DIA.
“The is a major adjustment for national security,” noted DIA director Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, and indeed the indications are that the long term goal is to make the DIA rival the size and scope of the CIA.
With the CIA well into a plan to downplay the whole “espionage” thing in favor of assassinations, moving into the Pentagon’s turf of killing people abroad, it was perhaps inevitable that the Pentagon would respond by encroaching on CIA territory. In the end, this sort of “competition” could continue for quite some time, since both CIA and Pentagon can rely on massive budgets for the foreseeable future.
Oh, why not! With the revolving doors going between Pentagon, CIA, NSA etc. should this be a surprise any longer?
Is Flynn a Neocon…???
It is interesting if not incomprehensible that an organ of the US Government would opt for assassination over espionage. With all our tireless rhetoric about democracy and other forms of political discourse reckoning sacro sanct human rights proscriptions and protections under international treaty, convention and law to which we are signatory, how is it that we continue to eliminate without due process? Our president has a degree in law, a member of the somewhat less-aggressive and warlike Democratic party, yet we continue to carpet bomb the world's 5th most poor nation (Afghanistan) that never raised a hand against the US. The Osama bin Laden residency issue is still promoted as jus ad bellum for war. But the truth of the matter is that the Taliban offerred him up to the Bush Administration on numerous occassions, only to be ignored and continually demonized. Then there's that inexplicable warning at a Berlin Conference to Pakistan's Secretary, Niaz Naik, that the US "will attack Afghanistan before the snow flies in October", months prior to 9/11.
What is needed is an independent watchdog agency, we don't need another spy anti-terror behemoth.
Actually, our Empire is a most wonderous competition dictatorship and I must say most self-glorifying.
For we all do so enjoy enriching our selves upon the misery of those in a lower class, with our 51% most wealthy always voting for politicans like Obama who will surely enslave by poverty the laboring-class.
Gee, not like we are running a deficit or anything.
Really, are we about to make old people eat dog food and deny medical care to so the Pentagon can have their own intelligence agency that does the same thing as the alphabet soup of 20 some odd other intelligence agencies we already have? Are we about to raise taxes so this can happen. That's insane.
Outstanding ,because the end result will be the two destroying each other.
It's beyond past time to abolish every one of these government agencies.
