Much to the delight of Israeli hawks, the Canadian government announced today that it is severing all diplomatic ties with Iran, closing its Tehran embassy and expelling every Iranian diplomat from Canada.
Foreign Minister John Baird, detailing the move, condemned Iran as a “threat to global security” and insisted the move was a response to Iran’s hostility toward Israel. Israel has regularly been threatening to attack Iran, though in recent days it is suggested that they are climbing down off that threat.
The move was loudly praised by Israeli officials as well as the ADL, which urged the world to “follow Canada’s lead” in severing ties in the lead up to a potential war, saying the nation’s civilian nuclear program and “anti-Semitic rhetoric” can no longer be tolerated.
It was immediately questioned by former Canadian diplomat John Mundy, who noted that it was a “grave step and it can’t easily be reversed.” He also lamented the precedent it set, as the first time Canada has proactively taken a step to reduce its ability to facilitate peace negotiations.

This doesn't seem like a spontaneous move from a dim wit government but a significant gesture in response to timed signal requesting Canada to do its part on the geopolitical stage, to warm the world to a "new reality". It's not a bombing of Iran which seems to be the main course on the menu but a full scale invasion and military occupation of the Gaza strip. My own (Canadian "raised Christian") perspective is that this sort of action has nothing to do with Jews or Jewish influence. It has to do with a deep-rooted Christianity on the part of the Harper crew. I went to the same kind of Sunday school they did, and we were raised to feel a deep affinity for 'the holy places'. It's all about the kind of songs you learned when you were five years old.
We were taught a kind of Zionism that is independent of Jewish Zionism, and in some ways (through ignorance) much more aggressive. We don't live there so it's easy to be ridiculously tough.
But we just love Israel to death, you see, and anyone who so much as looks at Israel sideways is bad, bad! There's no logic to this, and no reasoning with these people.
When we see a movie like "Exodus" we root for the Jews, because of what we learned in Sunday school. Jews good, Philistines bad!
