Israel Attacks Southern Lebanon, Destroys Discovered Surveillance Device

Reports: Device Attached to Hezbollah Communication Wires

An Israeli warplane, or an unmanned drone by some accounts, attacked a site in southern Lebanon today, destroying what Hezbollah officials say was a surveillance device they had just uncovered attached to their communications network.

The attack was near the town of Zraiyeh, and the devices included a solar powered battery. It is just the latest in a string of reports that Israel installed spying devices in southern Lebanon during their most recent invasion.

Lebanon’s military also confirmed the blasts, but said that rather than a missile strike, as was initially reported, the explosives were attached to the devices, and detonated remotely when Israel found that they had been discovered.

The UN confirmed a similar detonation of a discovered spy device in 2009. The UN forces inside Lebanon said they were “aware” of today’s report, but declined to provide further details
