In the latest example of escalating rhetoric on both sides, Iraqi MP Sami al-Askari, a State of Law member and top aide to Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, has termed the Kurdistan Regional Government’s weaponry a “threat” to Maliki’s continued rule.
Askari made the comments during an interview with PressTV, saying the Kurdish weapons might reach “terrorists” and demanding that the Kurds unconditionally turn over all heavy weaponry to the central government.
This comes after a week of speeches by Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) President Massud Barzani in which he warned that the Maliki government might attack militarily, and raised the prospect of Iraqi Kurdistan holding a vote on secession as soon as September.
Askari insisted this was simply a lie and that there are too many top Kurdish officials in Iraq’s central government to ever simply attack Kurdistan. He then went on to call for “regional help” in forcing the Kurds to disarm.
Right now the US, turkey, and Saudi Arabia are trying to weaken the Maliki government through terrorist bombing, and to replaced it with a government friendly to them, and probably unfriendly to Iran. Turkey should be smart enough to know that if Iraqi Kurdistan tries to secede, so will the Kurds in Turkey that have been fighting Turkish government for some time, and that is not good news to Turkey.
Iraq, Iran, Turkey, and Syria will shrink in size if the Kurds in those countries get their own land, and none of the government concerned approves of it.
Don't do it Kurds! Keep your arms and if necessary, secede!
I don't think that Kurdistan has more than AK-47, beside if they had it they would've said that they have it or this whole 'THREAT' thing is a lie Iraqi government has made up to say that Kurdish people are terrorists. The third thing is that USA never cared about Kurdistan and the Kurdish people, you would've heard of a country called Kurdistan if they did, what I mean is that these Iraqi people make up everything they can to give a bad face to the Kurdish people, but if they don't like us why are they not letting us go?
