Kosovo Serbs are expected to turn out in force this week for a referendum in the north of the disputed enclave, with the question of whether or not to accept the NATO-backed Kosovo government on the agenda.
The likely result is no real mystery. The ethnic Serbs have overwhelmingly rejected being part of the Albanian-dominated Kosovo, and seek to rejoin Serbia. Pointing this out yet again, however, doesn’t sit well with the international community.
The United Nations operation in Kosovo is rejecting the vote entirely, insisting that it is “contrary to current law” and that they will not allow the vote to have any effect on the continued rule of the ethnic Serbian north.
German General Erhard Drews, the head of NATO’s occupation force, which has repeatedly clashed with Serb protesters, took the threats up another step, insisting that even holding the vote could lead to attacks against ethnic Serbs in southern Kosovo.
Why are Western nations against democratic majority votes of people in lands that they have recently created? The arogance of the UN and European nations with regard to the majority will of the Serb population in Kososvo is almost amusing.
Because they are Nacists and pure barbars….
Well if Kosovo can secede from Serbia, why can't northern Kosovo secede from Kosovo? Wasn't this the logic Lincoln used to create the state of West Virginia?
If the consent of the governed is such a foundational democratic "commandment", then indeed what was good and right for Kosovo's Muslims (so-called "Albanians") should be good and right for Kosovo's Serbs. Unfortunately, the power of the state is being challenged here, and where power is involved, the state doesn't bother about good and right. That said, the rise of democratic values inevitably leads to a conflict between state power and people power.
The world — Africa and the Mideast in particular — is chock full of nation states whose borders were drawn according to the extent of imperial conquest. Local tribal/ethnic boundaries were no more respected than were the "inalienable rights" of those being conquered. Post conquest, it became useful to have different, usually contentious, local tribes cobbled together into one "nation", as their fractiousness made imperial domination easier than against an homogenous unified opposition.
If the principle of self-determination was actually respected, then secession by plebiscite would be common, and the result would be many many small nations. In the US for example, the South, Midwest, Rocky mountain states, and the East and West coasts would all be separate nations. In the Mideast, Shia and Sunni regions would separate, as would Kurds, Persians, Balochs, Pashtuns, Punjabis, and no doubt a long list of others. But the privileges of the ruling class would everywhere be reconfigured, so better to keep the undemocratic unrepresentative state power you have, than submit to the uncertainty of people power and self-determination.
This is a classical mean in dividing people. The Balkan war was another work by the US and EU militarism regimes to grab land and occupy another sovereign country by dividing its people, Bill Clinton, Madeline Albright the mother of all zionism, Tony Blair the lier from a Labor party and Swedish fake Social Democrats are behind the present US and EU policies toward nations in Middle East, doing the same trying to divide nations grabbing their land and lying to them about democracy. It was above named people who started the new trend in militarizing the world, and is continued by the international cartel of neo-democrats, interesting part is that they have included the true tyrants and welcome new ons.
right on a_d man strater, i kno what i said yer media is like an ?device? of conveiyeince,,,harhar DO NOT READ
Just who is this International Community? How many countries does it represent? Are they always the same countries or does it vary in number from crisis to crisis? It sounds like a declaration used to avoid democratic procedure. Shouldn´t we come to despise such self-declared international communities for their manipulative actions?
!!! "German General Erhard Drews, the head of NATO’s occupation force, which has repeatedly clashed with Serb protesters, took the threats up another step, insisting that even holding the vote could lead to attacks against ethnic Serbs in southern Kosovo."

The Germans have a lot to answer for.
If Dante's vision of hell is true then their will be a special level in hell just for zee Germans.
After the horrors they brought to Europe during the Second World War they are still trying to undermine democracy and impose their rule on other nations.
They blocked a referendum in Greece so people could not vote against accepting a bailout package that will enslave them economically for decades.
Now they are threatening the Serbs that if they hold a referendum to decide whether to accept a government made up of war criminals. They can expect a violent response.
It kind of makes you wish that there are fires burning down bellow.
