Pakistani Interior Minister Demands US ‘Action’ Against Coup Memo Leaker

Says Former Fox News Analyst Plotting Against Pakistan 'for Mysterious Reasons'

Speaking today at a media conference in his office, Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik demanded that the United States take unspecified “actions” against Mansour Ijaz, the Pakistani-American businessman who leaked evidence of the “coup memo.”

Ijaz reported that he was dictated the memo directly by Ambassador Husain Haqqani to deliver to Admiral Michael Mullen. The memo asked Mullen to help the Zardari government move against Pakistani military leaders, promising to replace them with more pro-US figures. Haqqani has since resigned over the allegations, and Mullen confirmed receiving the memo.

Malik accused Ijaz of wanting to damage the Pakistani government “for mysterious reasons” and said that the US was obliged to take action against him for “acting against US laws and passing false statements.

Ijaz was formerly an analyst on Fox News, and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR). His father, Dr. Mujaddid Ijaz, was a top physicist in Pakistan’s nuclear weapons program.
