With rebel troops consolidating their positions in nearby Zawiya, including seizing the oil refinery in the town, rebel leader Mustafa Jalil today predicted a “veritable bloodbath” in Tripoli, including “a catastrophe that will touch (Moammar Gadhafi) and his family.”
Indeed, living conditions in Tripoli are already worsening precipitously, with food prices skyrocketing and frequent power outages. The residents on the periphery of town are increasingly fearful of what will happen if, or possibly when, the rebels arrive.
But whether or not the rebels could actually occupy Tripoli is another matter entirely. Though they have managed to hold Zawiya for a surprisingly long time and even made some inroads in the desert south of Tripoli, the regime has been heavily fortifying the capital in preparation for a major battle.
And the number of rebel fighters in the west is not that enormous. Though the force in Misrata managed to extend itself out somewhat, the force in the south is reported to be no more than a few hundred strong, and far short of the massive army required to occupy a fortified city like Tripoli.
Mustafa Jalil is a power hungry traitor who will not be able to deliver a better life to the Libyans but will sell the country's assets dirt-cheap to his sponsors.
The "rebels"? – or – the 'terrorists"? – does anyone actually know who they are?
As the saying goes – "beware what you want less you get it" – in the end will the Libyan people be any better off? – NOT likely.
these rebel-terrorists are all mouth. Nothing but glorified traitors to their country, killing their own Libyan brethren, backed by foreigners who have no clue of the tribal connections which run so deep in this society.
Gaddhafi and the majority of Libyans who appear to support him will not give up so easily.

Arn't these statements by the Libyan "Rebels"similar to the words of the Libyan regime that BROUGHT CONDEMNATION FROM THE WESTERN POWERS AND BOMBING OF THE LIBYAN PEOPLE when aimed at Benghazi????
WILL NATO NOW BOMB THE REBELS TO STOP THE BLOODBATH PREDICTED BY THEM?????
As I posted on a previous story, "I ain't got a dawg in this fight" so to me personally it doesn't matter who "wins" in Libya.
What I DO care about are all the innocent Libyan civilians who are getting killed in the crossfire of this senseless 'rebellion' or 'revolution' or whatever the term du jour is for the violence. I am furious at the 'rebels' for destroying Libya without even having any sort of operational plan for the uprising or a plan for the end-game-or, for that matter, what they were going to do to protect the civilians along the way. I am equally furious at Gahdhafi for his heavy-handed and murderous response to the uprising that has left his people and nation shattered. In some ways, though, I am MOST angry at the West (I'm looking at YOU, Obama) for taking advantage of such an awful situation and making it worse in pursuit of some nebulous personal agenda.
I don't care who wins, in the end; as long as the victor brings peace and stability back to Libya and improves the living conditions to its people to at least what it was pre-revolution – with NO reprisals or pogroms – I am for that side.
This senseless, politically-driven blood farce must stop.
