White House spokesman Jay Carney today rejected the Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s recent report on Afghanistan, saying that the report detailing the massive amount of money wasted on aid projects was “just simply wrong.”
The report concluded that the US had created a “culture of aid dependency” with massive aid projects and inflated salaries, and that the $320 million the US spends every month on aid projects has done nothing to improve stability in the war torn nation.
Which the White House rejects, primarily because it runs afoul of their repeated claims that the war is making massive progress recently. That “progress” simply isn’t the kind which involves anything getting measurably better.
Carney also criticized the report for focusing on the $320 million in civilian aid, noting that it was only a small fraction of the huge overall cost of the war. While this seems to only make the case for the failing war even worse, Carney appeared to feel this was quite an important point.
In a sense, the whole war is a massive aid project. Just think how much money it pumps into the Afghan economy. Economically there is a strong incentive for the Afghans (or at least the 'owners') to keep us there as long as possible.
Hey Jay, buddy…Ole Bobby Gibbs was a terrible liar but you my friend are a complete failure. For once, the Senate Report is probably closer to the truth than anything we've gotten on the record for a very, very long time. If they're wrong, it is most likely due to being on the low side of the numbers – $320 million seems awfully low, to me, at least. And yes, the money spent has done ZERO to improve the situation after 10 years – that's excessive even for a government contractor.
News flash, if what you, Jay, are saying is what is being told to Obama, then he surely will be defeated next year because the American people are waking up, sort of, and outright lies such as left your lips yesterday, as they say in some parts, well, that dog ain't gonna hunt. You can thank Dubya for rubbing salt in the wounds of the American people. Pray, if that's your bent, that they get tired in the next 16 months and forget why their pissed off.
