Israeli Strikes Destroy Abandoned Post in Southwest Syria

IDF releases detained Syrian child after two days in custody

Israeli troops launched multiple new incursions on the ground in southwest Syria, centered primarily on the Quneitra and the Daraa Governorates. The most noteworthy incident, however, happened further to the north.

The incident took place in Rif Damasq, near Mount Hermon. The Israeli forces carried out strikes against a former Syrian military engineering battalion site near the village of Arnah, destroying the building.

Israel occupied Mount Hermon beginning in December of 2024, and has vowed to retain the area permanently. In recent days, Israeli troops have been raiding homes on the frontier of that area.

Operations in Quneitra are increasingly restricting access to the western part of the governorate, which in the agriculture heavy villages are a huge problem, often cutting farmers off from their fields or shepherds from their usual grazing lands. Residents in al-Rufayd informed the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) about the growing harassment they face from the IDF.

In northern Quneitra, IDF troops set up a military checkpoint in Jbata al-Khashab, though no detentions were reported there. Further south, troops entered Asbah and detained a young man. The reason for the detention and the fate of the man remain unknown.

A child from the outskirts of the village of Qudna had been reported detained over the weekend. Some two days after he was reportedly taken, the IDF returned him. There was no explanation for why he was detained in the first place.
