Heavy Russian strikes pounded targets across Ukraine overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, killing at least nine people and leaving hundreds of thousands without power as attacks hit multiple power plants.
Photos show that at least one residential building in Kyiv’s Desnianskyi district was hit during the barrage, where Ukrainian officials say at least two civilians were killed.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced strikes on multiple power stations in Kyiv and Kharkiv, despite President Trump announcing several days ago that the two sides had reached an energy ceasefire, though both Russia and Ukraine made clear at the time that no such deal existed.

Axios reported on October 11, citing a White House official, that the US proposal involved only halting attacks on oil refineries, not on power plants or electricity grids. The official also acknowledged that Russia had not agreed to the proposal.
Ukraine appeared to have refrained from targeting Russian oil refineries for several days, though on Wednesday Alexander Novak, Russia’s deputy prime minister, accused Ukraine of attacking two refineries in Russia’s Saratov and Ryazan, allegations that Ukrainian officials denied.
At least one civilian was killed in Russia’s Saratov region during the massive Ukrainian drone barrage. According to Russia’s Defense Ministry, a total of 902 Ukrainian drones were shot down over multiple Russian regions and the Black Sea during the massive Russian attack.
According to Russia’s TASS news agency, 493 Ukrainian drones were launched toward the Moscow Oblast, one of the largest attacks on the region. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said that 180 drones were intercepted near Moscow while the rest were taken down at a further distance.
