Nabatieh al-Fawqa has been the site of a lot of strikes in recent weeks, but today an incident was reported when a Lebanese soldier was escorting civilians back into the town to inspect their properties.
The group came upon what is being described as a suspicious object, and in the ensuing explosion the Lebanese soldier was seriously wounded, along with three other civilians from the group. The soldier appears to have been the most seriously wounded according to preliminary reports.
Initial reports had claimed that there four were wounded in an Israeli strike against the area, though the Lebanese Army later clarified that was not the case, and that it was simply an object the group had come across on their journey.

Exactly what that object was remains unclear, though in as much as Israel routinely shells Nabatieh al-Fawqa, the prospect of an unexploded ordinance is probably one of the more likely candidates.
Large numbers of Lebanese have been displaced since the Israeli invasion in early March. The protracted displacement has left many stuck in cramped conditions and with few resources, leading many to try to return home even when it’s clearly not safe yet to do so.
Many of the towns and villages in the south are badly damaged or outright destroyed, and in many cases the displaced aren’t certain what, if anything, they have to return to. Today’s incident showed the Lebanese Army was escorting some people to try to find out, though even checking on those properties isn’t always easy or safe, which is why many displaced have reported turning to satellite imagery to try to get an idea of the conditions of their homes.
