One Israeli Soldier Killed, 13 Wounded Overnight in South Lebanon Fighting

IDF reports three Hezbollah fighters surrendered as fighting continues in Bint Jbeil

Heavy fighting continued to rage in southern Lebanon overnight, and the Israeli command reported they’d sustained a number of casualties, with one soldier was killed and three wounded during a battle when their Humvee flipped over.

The slain soldier was identified as Master Sgt. Ayal Bianco of the Barak Armored Brigade. The wounded soldiers were evacuated to a hospital. Among the wounded in this incident, one was described as moderate and the other two lightly wounded.

10 more Israeli paratroopers were reported wounded overnight in what was described as “direct confrontations” elsewhere in the area, with three of them reported as seriously wounded. Here too Israel insisted the wounded were taken to hospitals.

Fighting continued on multiple fronts along the Israel-Lebanon border, and which IDF forces have talked of occupying the whole region south of the Litani River, they continue to struggle with towns that are effectively directly on the border, like Khiam and Bint Jbeil.

Yesterday they claimed to have totally surrounded Bint Jbeil and killed over a hundred “terrorists” within, though beyond having destroyed a relatively small stadium the visible accomplishments are limited, and indeed today they claimed again to have surrounded it, while claiming three Hezbollah within the town had surrendered to them.

The attacks on Khiam, one of the first towns struck in the invasion on March 3, have similarly continued apace, with a large explosion exploded today in the town in the course of an Israeli operation.

So far that explosion is unexplained, but Khiam is believed to be one of multiple towns near enough to the Blue Line border that Israel intends to level them outright in the course of this war. Hezbollah fighters, however, are still reported to be within Khiam, similarly resisting Israeli advances.

Since the war began on March 3, Israel has killed 2,124 people in Lebanon, and wounded 6,921 others.
