Speaking today from what appeared to be a crumbling bunker, long-time Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi pledged to do whatever is necessary to retain power, while insisting that he would die a martyr in fighting to retain his rule.
What followed was a rambling speech touching on several subjects, but which mostly was a combination of defense for the massive number of civilians massacred by the regime over the past few days, and threats to kill large numbers of additional people if they didn’t agree to his continued control over the nation.
Incredibly, Gadhafi also appeared to appeal to the international community for support in his continued brutality, citing the 1993 Waco Massacre and the 1989 Tiananmen Square Massacre as precedent for his mass killing of public protesters.
The speech harkened back to the defiant final speech of Egyptian dictator Hosni Mubarak before his eventual ouster, and indeed it appears that the Gadhafi regime is on its last legs. Though they continue to have enough support in the military to continue killing people, it appears to be far short of what would be needed to cement their hold over the country.
It was a crazy speech indeed. "I haven't used force yet, but I may." Right.
But after all, in Waco women and children were burned to death by incendiary grenades, and the regime is still in place. And look at Iraq: Madeleine Albright was asked in an MSNBC interview if she approved of the starving to death of half a million Iraqi children through sanctions, and she said that "it was worth it." (If a country's leader has given diplomatic and financial support to Palestinian resistance groups, kill half a million, kill ten million, and it's worth it to punish the country.) So Gadhafi has every reason to believe that massacres are allowed. Because they are. But he missed the part that it depends on what the media managers think.
Libya's official name is "The Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya". Gadhafi blames "islamists" for the rebellion.
Similarly, the ruling parties in Tunisia and Egypt were anti-traditional, anti-religion, and members of the Socialist International – until the revolutions started, then they were thrown out of the SI after a couple of weeks. The people chanted religious, nationalist slogans and waved the flags of their countries, just like in Libya where they chant, "There is only one God, and Gadhafi is the enemy of God."
Great to see these socialist regimes from the Cold War crumbling. Back then, the socialists in the West were crooning that "solidarity has come to the Arab world." Many praised the pro-Soviet Gadhafi. And of course, the regimes (except Libya) were supported by the Washington regime, in return for their support of the socialist regime in Israel, their oppression of Islamist resistance, and any other way they could help make way for the Palestinian genocide.
Perhaps we are now seeing the beginning of the end of an era, when these socialists are thrown out and replaced by people who actually care about the poor, not just about taking power and keeping it. Not a moment too soon. And boy, will it upset the Washington-Tel Aviv axis. Yes, Libya was no friend of the West – Gadhafi is a particular kind of crazy – but the country will become a haven for nationalist Arab resistance soon.
None can dictate to anyone else how to live in their own territory, no matter who is in power in Washington or else where in the world. Look at Afghanistan, after 20 years of Soviet occupation, one would have thought, it would be easy to defeat Talibans. Almost ten years into the war, the US (first military power) and NATO now, still have a hard time. Can we impose our way of life upon others? Hell, no that is a true example and lesson that the West has to learn, people are ought to choose they own way of life, even if we disagree with them. They are the only writers of their own history, their own destiny. Ghadafi is a reknown imbecile, and mass murderer, that is how he will go down into History, killing his own people(it is his own chosing, no dignity, a proof that he is a devil). However revolting to see that, Libyans and other people have to face their own demons, like many others on the planet. Castro next door, Chavez and how many more in Africa, and the very huge monster China. Are we suppose to do business with all of these countries? There are so many of them… All we can do is instill some common sense, unfortunately the rest is their path to walk.
Of course, every one of the revolutions underway in the Middle East is being fueled by "Islamic extremists" bent on installing a New Caliphate across the region- otherwise, what is to explain the huge turnouts in support of reforms and or/ousters of Western-backed autocracies? Surely it couldn't be our policies of installing and supporting such regimes, could it? Surely it couldn't be our insistence that each of our puppet states toes the line and doesn't say or do anything to hurt Israel's fragile feelings- no matter how it affects the average citizen? No, it's GOT to be 'extremists' behind all of this- no population in its right mind would want a greater say in how it is governed or how their nation interacts with others. Demonstrating in the streets? INCONCEIVABLE!!

Other news give a totally different picture of yours: GADDAFI IS RETIRED AND HAS NO POLITICAL POST AT ALL, his action and public presentations are only made because the people committees and peoples assemlies asked him to do so. They have the power, not he. He is only acting as honory person. and it is right according to my information, that the order given by the defense committee of the people, was "no force". They believed that the people itself coulnd clear the al qaida sparked rebellion without force over the last weeks. Only weapon storages where bombed to avoid even more fighting and deaths and some bombs were trown in the desert between rebells and oil installation in order to keep them aways from there.
But the people could not do anything against the armed terrorists and also killed many black people and caused vandalism and burglary – what the people without weapons could not stop. Only this was the resaon for the new defens committee decision to stop the violent terorists.
The terrorists burned down public buildings and killed soldiers and police men – this can be of course no be allowed. Peaceful unarmed demonstrator were according my sources never attacked – peaceful protests are no problem at all said the committees – also not with airplanes. This also was confirmed by russian satellite analyses – these reports mostly were censored in Nato -country media. as far as I remember even here at antiwar!

There are a lot of black native Libyans in the south. It must not be black soldiers from other countries as claimed by media for NATO coutries. And when I hear that the rasist killings of black Libyans by the eastern tribes (many who escaped did confirmed this) it is no wonder that they fight back. I think it has nothing to do with freedom or democracy – except that the eastern tribes believing they get rich as puppets of NATO Oil fighters. Gaddafi distributed the wealth of oil income.
How can he speak with them when he should be a foreigner ? Where is his uniform? To shoot or not to shoot is a question of ALL sides in this conflict. All conflicts at least the deathly ones are actually conflicts made by the rich and those profiting form these morder. People want always peace for nearly any price.
